Not So New Movie Thread part duex
Figured I'd start a new one, because I don't feel like finding the other one.
Pirate Radio - Was an excellent movie. Would recommend it for sure.
Legion - It was OK, the plot could have been a little better. Definitely could tell they didn't have shit for a budget.
Star Trek - Saw this a couple weeks ago. How fucking excellent. I grew up watching Star Trek, so I was worried, but was very well done.
Have seen a bunch of chick flicks with the wife, meh, they're chick flicks.
Oh saw the Time Travelers Wife - More science fiction than love story, was pretty good in my mind, Eric Bana does a good job.

Re: Not So New Movie Thread part duex
Haven't seen too much recently. Rented "Miss March" a few weeks ago...was okay, but I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to see it. I just watched it because it had a couple of members of "The Whitest Kids U Know" in it. Most of the funny stuff was in the trailers.
I can't wait for the next Star Trek movie. Even though the new one had a couple of glaring plotholes, it was a really fun movie.

Jayson, you need to make this thread a sticky so I don't have to search for it again.
Miss March was by the guys who do the "The Whitest Kids You Know" and was OK, it was actually really stupid and I was pissed when they started tearing up that old Vista Cruiser.
I also saw "I love you Beth Cooper" and that was OK too. The scene where the ex-boyfriend comes into the dorky kids house and starts destroying shit just to beat up the dorky kid was ridiculous. I thought in my mind "Why the fuck has no one called 911 yet?" Hayden Panettiere was the only thing making that movie watchable.

I watched Alice in Wonderland on Netflix the other day. Not one of Tim Burton's more memorable movies imo.

Sure thing. I haven't stickied a thread in a while.

Also saw Drag Me to Hell. I laughed a lot, that movie was intentionally made bad.

I just saw She's Out of Your League. What a great hilarious movie. Alice Eve is so fucking hot.
Also saw The Invention of Lying. Was pretty funny, definitely recommend for a movie to see with a lady friend.

I saw "Mystery Team" the other day. It was okay...not as funny as I hoped, as those guys from Derrick Comedy made it. Had a few good lines, though.
Re: Not So New Movie Thread part duex
Recently watched Hancock. It sucked.
I also just watched Locked Up with Sly. It was awesome

Planning on it.
Saw Tangled Tuesday night. Pretty good. Animated chick is hot, especially when she becomes a short pixie haired brunette. OF MY LAP, KIDS, DADDY NEEDS ROOM IN HIS PANTS.

So I was watching Avatar again and I don't understand why people complained about the CGI. It was very well done, has a good story line, and was one of the most original storylines to come out of Hollywood in a long time.
Also, if any of my Sci-Fi nerds saw, there are a lot of ques from the movie Aliens, which is another James Cameron movie.

Avatar is just dances with wolves with aliens. What's so original about the story?

To an extent yes, but DWW has a similar plot from movies that precedes it as well. The idea isn't new, but the storyline is fresh. For someone to create a language is also a feat in itself. Most alien movies involve aliens making a bunch of garbled noises and then subtitling it; James Cameron really made an actual language. Sure you can make another alien movie, but how are the aliens going to look and act? What's the planet going to look like? Why are the humans there? What's their involvement with the aliens?
The idea may be the same, but in many ways different. James Cameron makes good movies and it didn't disappoint.

Yeah ask any girl what they thought of Titanic. If they said they didn't love it, there is something wrong with them.
Actually, Terminator 1&2, Aliens, The Abyss, and True Lies were his best movies.

Oh, but its got Johnny Depp in it playing a creepy role, so it must be good.
I should watch Edward Scissorhands just to compensate for the suck that movie brought.

Are you talking about Big Fish or a different movie? Because Johnny Depp wasn't in Big Fish.

Oh, no, no, I meant Alice in Wonderland. I've never seen Big Fish...and I could have sworn I quoted Honor instead of you.

One johnny depp movie I saw recently that I liked was public enemies. Not a big fan of those lame pirate movies of his though.

Re: Not So New Movie Thread part duex
eh. I saw the first one, it was alright, but didn't bother myself with the next two, probably won't bother with the fourth. I knew they were gonna milk that shit; it's Disney for Pete's sake. I do want to see Sweeny Todd though, if that's any good.
Public enemies was really good though. I read the historical novel before I watched the movie, and they're both pretty legit to the best of my knowledge. I'm sure there was a bit of embellishment in the film, but that's Hollywood for you.

I liked all three of the Pirates movies, although the 2nd one was a bit weak.
Re: Not So New Movie Thread part duex
well, I thought the ghost story aspect of the first one was pretty cool. but in the second one, the idea of fish-men on a ship made of barnacles was just far too ridiculous.JaysonAych wrote:I liked all three of the Pirates movies, although the 2nd one was a bit weak.

I loved all the Pirates movies. I agree, the 2nd was the weakest though. That's usually the way these things go though (The Empire Strikes Back being a big exception).
Really looking forward to the new one. I think they're taking it in a new direction which'll be good. They finished with that one story. Now they need to start a new one. The fact that Blackbeard is going to be in it makes me all giddy.
Also, I liked pirates from before they were cool.
