Whoa, very nice! How is it so far? Is this just added to your existing fleet, or did you trade something in?
Re: Went looking at SUVs today
I'm loving the look of the CX5. I suppose this the better vehicle overall...

Man, I'm no competition for you - and I've been through my fair shair. I'll admit though, I like driving different cars. I'm already kind of bored with the GTI. I shouldprobably tough it out for 2 years or so, at least.
Since 2007:
1988 Corolla (Wallywagon!)
2008 Honda Civic
2011 Honda CRZ
2012 Honda GTI

Agreed. My next car will probably be preowned. Get into something nicer for a lower price, and avoid the depreciation hit. It's been brutal. I kept the Civic for long enough that it seemed worth while, but if I'm flipping cars every two years, its stupid to buy new.

Yeah, they're decent. Even my LX coupe was decently quick when you wanted it to be. And honestly, 75% of the fun in a civic comes from shifting that great gear box and flicking it around corners. They're good.
The new Golf's impress me too - this generation is great. Definitely worth a look used. The 2.5 is a nice little engine, and the 2.0 Diesel is pretty awesome too. My parents are seeing a real world 4.6 l / 100 km on the high way, and nothing over 6.5 in town. Fun to drive too, with all that torque.

I would probably switch out beater cars every other month if it were easier.
"tag office" open 8:30 to 4:30 M-F, Calling insurance lady, dealing with people that don't understand the concept of working a full time job when you go to buy/sell

From one who gets out of an Evo and into an RSXS, you will miss that torque curve like mad. I don't recommend that move...

I've been lucky so far. Cars will come into work, or people will meet me at work off Craigslist. Dealers are open till 9, and I have every other Saturday off to go shopping/meet sellers if needed. Insurance office is a short call away, the only pain is getting to the DMV to get a title/registration/plates. I can USUALLY get it done on my lunch hour, but you never know how long it may take.

Southerners are lazy and have no job. This happened to me twice while selling the Fiero.
Put on CL Friday night, hoping it sells over weekend. Person finally contacts me on Tuesday wants come look at it at 2PM. I go sorry i'm in Missouri, how about Thursday? They get made and say I don't seem very motivated.
And then I work 1 Hour away from the DMV, so going on my lunch hour is out of the question

"Yes, I'm not very motivated. Sorry I didn't immediately rush 700 miles back home to show you a 25+ year old car that needs some work and made you wait a couple of days."
Some people are fucked in the head.

There's an only in there.... I'm not sure why. For the rest of the world, that's a lot of cars I bet - one every 2.5 years or so. In fact, I've been driving for only a year longer, and I'm only on 4 cars! My parents usually go between 5 and 10 years between cars.

"Only" in comparison to you lot.
I'm actually too cheap too really flip cars. I held on to the Golf WAY longer than I should have just because the payment was dirt cheap. All my cars up to the Focus were horrible and on their last legs. (Except the Z28 but it was starting to show signs of needing massive repairs.) The only reason I traded in the Focus is because it was never the car I really wanted; my plan was always to get a vert Stang but then the fucking VW From Hell up and died a few months before I was ready to spend the money on a Stang.
Surprisingly, there are quite a few people at work who show up with new cars every year. Some are leased, some just buy based on their fancy. It's kind of surprising because it's not like everyone here is well paid.

I've come to the conclusion that 90% of the people out there that drive "nice" cars (we'll say 50k+), really can't afford them.

I have a dumbass co-worker that cruises around a British Racing green Jaguar XF, which he purchased new. Dude probably makes 45K/year
He bought it thinking it would help him get laid. But all it does is make him have to rent rooms from other co-workers.

Exactly. Just because you can buy something, doesn't mean you can actually afford it --- upkeep, repairs, etc. We had a similar discussion with someone but about houses. Yeah, the bank can give you a generous loan for a house and you could maybe even make the payments but the first time the AC needed to be replaced or HOA dues go up, you're fucked.
I would rather have a nice cozy little house, a decent car and plenty of spending money. It's a nice balance for me.
At least until I'm making WAY more money.
