2014 Mazda 6
Got to walk around, sit in, ride in, and play with one (whilst not moving) today.
They wouldn't let me take pictures, and the camo wrap had just come of a few days ago.
It had 9,000 miles, so it was a devlopment mule of sorts, the spare tire was missing, and someone hit something hard enough with the left front to knock out the fog light, fender liner, and some part of the inner metal structure that now is lying twisted in the trunk.
It had no badges on it.
It looks awesomer in person than it does in photos. The back end is very sexy. The front end needs to grow on me more. Too... pug nosed. I liked the LED DRL's.
It is smaller than the last 6, and about the size of the first one, but bigger inside. Kind of. The pillars are HUGE. It will be hard for fat or tall people to get in the front seat. I fit fine in front and in back.
The materials inside are nice, the i-drive like control knob works well for the navi-radio-pandora/sms unit(the last two via bluetooth). Its got a big honkin sensor in front of the rear view mirror for the radar cruise control (not equipped on this car) and crash avoidance system (I did not get details, but much like higher line cars, it will probably cinch the seatbelts and pre-apply the brakes to get them ready if it thinks an impact is imminent). The seat material is kinda funky. I'd prefer leather probably anyways on a car in this price bracket.
The trunk is big, its space impeded only by goose-neck hinges (WHY!?!??! ITS A 2014!!! ALL OTHER CARS HAVE COMPACT HINGES THESE DAYS!!!!! SO DID THE LAST TWO MAZDA 6ESES!!!!!!) and the release knobs for the rear seatbacks.
What else, what else... OH! It had the SKYACTIV 2.5L and 6-speed auto. No V6 will be offered. None needed, they say. The 2.5L felt.. ok.. with four fat people on board.
We will not get the wagon. Probably.
I can't really post this anywhere else, so I posted it here. Not that anyone here needs a new 4-door family sedan, but I think as a bread-and-butter car Mazda will do well with this one.

Re: 2014 Mazda 6
I want the Wagon. They won't sell it here. Why? Because the people of the United States fucking suck and just want SUVs even though gas is $4 a gallon. So, Mazda is going to sell it everywhere else but the U.S.
Fuck I'm having a bad night.

Re: 2014 Mazda 6
Those things look pretty cool in photos. I actually prefer the more pug-nosed front end to what Mazda's been doing lately.
Speaking of cool shit everyone else gets, how about that Fusion (Mondeo) 5-door we won't be getting? It's fucking criminal that we can't have this car. I'd buy it tomorrow.

Re: 2014 Mazda 6
They've always had a 5-door Mondeo. but with everybody else coming out with these "4-door coupes" (read: hatchback sedans), they could at least bring it over here as competition for the CC which basically has the segment by the balls.
seriously, do you know of another affordable 4-door midsize hatch sold in the US? c'mon Ford.

Yeah, they've always had a 5-door Mondeo, but this time around, the Mondeo and the Fusion are the same car. You could excuse Ford for not bringing the Mondeo over before, but now seeing as how we're now building them and selling them in North America, there's no reason they couldn't just build the 5-door variant as well.

Would the Toyota Venza and the Honda Accord Crosstour count? Both pretty big. Almost quasi-SUV.
I'd put the BMW 3-series wagon in that segment - as well as the Audi version. And what the hell the Golf 5-door too (though a bit small).

See, there's no reason why they can't sell the 5-door here. It would probably would sell more than a wagon, but I hate that there's this whole mentality of wagons are phased out because we now have CUVs and Minivans. Hell, if Mazda sold a 5-door 6 like they did the first gen 6, that would be a good alternative to the wagon.
I don't like minivans, CUVs don't have the same space as a true wagon, and if SUVs come into the mix, I'll stab someone in the face. I want a car. I want something that handles, but can haul a bunch of stuff when I need.
If I lived in England, it wouldn't be a problem to get one of these and no one would have a problem with it.

Re: 2014 Mazda 6
Anyway, I love wagons. Always have. So much more useful than sedans, and better looking too, I find. The 3-series wagon is sex on wheels. Better than their sedans, I think.

Every car in Paris is either tiny or a medium-sized wagon.

Wouldn't the Prius also count as a 4 door coupe? In some wierd way. Also the Insight. Not really stellar performers though.

If anything the Prius and Insight would be 5-door cars

I'm so confused. I guess I don't know what the difference between a 4 door coupe and a 5-door car and a wagon is.
Well I guess I understand a wagon. It's basically a longer 5 door from what I can tell.

I'm not sure TJ has the terminology correct.
5-Door usually means that it is a form of hatchback or liftback (depends how it's marketed).
4-Door Coupe means that it still has the sweeping lines of a coupe but still has a trunk.
3-Door cars are usually referenced the same as a 5-door.
Unfortunately, companies like Audi are blurring the lines between 5-Doors and 4-Door Coupes with cars like the A7.
Here are some examples:
5-Door Hatchback
5-Door Liftback
4-Door Coupe

Re: 2014 Mazda 6
Liftback and hatchback are the same thing. You could argue that liftbacks flatten out a bit in the tail, but then the Prius and Saab would have to be swapped.
I'm not really sure there is such a thing as a four door coupe. But if there is, I guess Rover was first.

Re: 2014 Mazda 6
I consider my car a hatchback. Some people call it a station wagon though. It basically is, just with a very small cargo area. It's all just silly semantics.

Re: 2014 Mazda 6
Your car is not a hatch.
One could argue that a hatchback has to have a panel covering the cargo area that is lifted BY the hatchback when open, but when closed separates the cargo area from the passenger compartment.

Lol
I gave a tour to some local technicians yesterday, I let them take pics of the 2014 Sorento. You need friendlier automaker people.

I consider liftbacks to be the fastback version of a sedan or coupe that have a hatch instead of a trunk. The Prius and Insight neither have a sedan counterpart, like the Golf, so I consider them hatchbacks. Also, the Prius and Insight have to have a piece of vertical glass to be able to see out of the back because the back end is so tall.
There is a fine line between hatchback and liftback, but there is a difference.

Is it much different from the 2013?
My rep is an ass, and I think he was worried about the damaged bits being laughed at.
If I really wanted I could get some screen grabs from the security cams at work.
Re: 2014 Mazda 6
Different Bumper Covers, different tail lights/head lights. It's only a face lift, but it uses a different floor pan.
Interior changed, too
