I'd buy a focus because it interfaces with my zune. What a terrible reason to buy a car though.

current focus isn't that much of a shitheap, though...
Re: hey so we finally get the right focus in america??
In Europe it's quite a good car. In North America it's the same platform that's been on the road since it was introduced 10 years ago, with just an ass-ugly facelift to try and disguise it.ascona wrote:current focus isn't that much of a shitheap, though...

Re: hey so we finally get the right focus in america??
I think the current focus in north America I believe is still based off the escort platform.

No.
Re: hey so we finally get the right focus in america??
Hey, Ford? Yeah, no one else is putting headlight switches on the dash. Yeah. We all moved them to the turn signal stalk in the 90's. Time to catch up.

Except for BMW, Audi, Toyota, Mercedes just off the top of my head.

Re: hey so we finally get the right focus in america??
Why would you clog the stalk up when almost all headlights are automatic now?

i remember in my '92 camaro the headlight switch was on the dash to the lower left of the steering wheel, and you had to twist that to turn on the overhead cabin light as well. it was weird.

in my father's opel, you had to pull the turn button for the cabin lighting.

1980 Ford Fairmont. The horn was on the turn signal stalk. Had to push it in toward the wheel to blow the horn. The most fucked up thing ever.

renault, peugeot and citroen used to have that, too
the only advantage is that, when honking your horn, you're flashing your highbeams too...

On the Fairmont though, I believe the high-beam switch was on the floor. So that advantage was gone

During that time, it seemed like most models made by American manufacturers were each their own sort of bullshit ergonomic experiment. Ford was worse about it than the others, IMHO.
Re: hey so we finally get the right focus in america??
i remember hearing the 85-86 maxima or so had a woman's voice remind you if you forgot to put your seatbelt on, or if you left a turn signal on or something.

Re: hey so we finally get the right focus in america??
My mom had this exact car when I was younger. Like the guy in the video, I once pressed the system check button which would cycle through all these voices while she was driving and she about smacked me:
Re: hey so we finally get the right focus in america??
damn, not only the voice but the green digital dash and all. i'd feel like i was michael knight in that thing.
