Re: Forza 3 live update
rrod is caused by broken solder contacts, chances are one day it will just stay RROD'd.

Re: Forza 3 live update
actually RROD is caused by the heatsinks breaking loose from the GPU and CPU from over heating. Microsoft used a shitty way to keep the heatsinks held down in the early models. With a few screws washers and thermal paste I fixed mine and I haven't had a problem with it since. I would advise not continually using it if you've already had RROD it's not something that will go away and it could cause permanent damage to the GPU and CPU.

It was for an F-class series. I had to use that one.
A quick scene from a race in that series:

Re: Forza 3 live update
Damn I love this game. Choosing from the event list is so much better than playing in career mode - being able to string a few of the same class championships together actually lets you learn a car properly and build it up in the right areas.
It also lets you realise that some cars aren't so hot. I was racing the M3 GTR in the M3 vs. RS4 series and it seemed pretty good. It was even possible to drift rally-style around the final hairpin at Amalfi. So after completing those races, I immediately entered the B Euro Tour where it was just too twitchy out of corners against the more planted Aston and Jag. Switched to a stock California (partly for the direct rival factor) and it immediately had two seconds per lap on the others.
It's funny too - the California is fun but controllable and seems too good for B class competition. Yet even in the game you can see why reviewers are only lukewarm with the car. The engine doesn't sound as good as any other available Ferrari and it drives great but not special.

Re: Forza 3 live update
There you go Honor:
Also added with the patch:
Team balancing on team multiplayer modes in hoppers, including the addition of AI to smaller teams.
Stickier drag strips in drag mode, including the inclusion of peak tire temperatures at the beginning of race.
Ability for Turn 10’s community team to control XP reward payout on a hopper basis via server settings. Yes, now you may be able to get a lot more XP points for playing a certain style of multiplayer game.
Engine rev control added to the 3-2-1 pre-race moment for players using manual-with-clutch transmission in Drag mode only.

Why couldn't they have given this to, you know, everyone in every race?
Re: Forza 3 live update
that whole pre-race revving animation has to go. it's so lame and arcadey.

Re: Forza 3 live update
I don't know if photo mode enhances the quality compared to normal racing. But if it doesn't then, the frame rate is an amazing accomplishment. Some of the detail on badges and the above window is crazy.
Also, the new DLC has my favourite car - the Aston V12 Vantage. It has a few good cars. But paying $8 every couple of months is going to get annoying.

Re: Forza 3 live update
I bought the car pack last night. The Rapide is a pretty good car. Upgraded brakes are a must for it though and it eats tires, but it drives really well stock.

i think what they charge, 50 cents a car, is quite reasonable. too bad you cant choose which cars you want and pay only for them though. some of the cars they add i dont give 2 shits about.

Re: Forza 3 live update
My other issue is that GT and Forza advertise heavily about the in-depth research that goes into each car's physics, engine notes etc. The car packs come out very quickly and I wonder if the same development is put into these. It's understandable if guesswork is involved for the concept cars, but the other models should have a bit of time spent to ensure they reflect the real versions' characteristics.
That said, the Panamera (fast but boring) and 458 (fun but tricky) are eerily similar to the Evo reviews.

According to Jalopnik ( http://jalopnik.com/5480781/inside-forza-motorsport-part-iii-the-physics-of-driving-games ) there's a program they use called Automagic where they plug in all kinds of data, and the program extrapolates how the car is supposed to feel when its driven. They say it gives very accurate results, even predicting how cars that hadn't been released to the public would drive.
Automagic is accurate enough that it has actually revealed flaws in real-world cars. One of those cars, [Lead Designer Dan Greenawalt] claims, is the Ferrari Enzo. Turn 10 modeled the Enzo shortly after its introduction — and before anyone outside Ferrari had driven it — using data obtained from Maranello. When the car was loaded into the game, its chassis balance was supposedly nightmarish, a mix of low-speed understeer and snap oversteer. "It didn't work below [triple-digit speeds]," Greenawalt says. "We thought, 'This is the Enzo — it can't be this bad.' We just assumed our math model was wrong." Shortly thereafter, several major car magazines drove the car and commented at length on its flawed handling. Greenawalt was nothing if not relieved.
Re: Forza 3 live update
That's bizarre more than anything.
I caved in and downloaded the car pack. Love the Vantage V12 and the Z4, and my girlfriend likes the TT RS.
Only problem is I had deleted that message for the free Bugatti. Is there anyway I can be gifted the car?

Re: Forza 3 live update
Yeah. You can e-mail turn10 through forzamotorsport.net and try that way.... I'd gift you mine but I don't think I can... and I like it. I might use it.
Re: Forza 3 live update
Haahhaaa, did you piss him off in a previous race? I've noticed he holds grudges....

Benfolio wrote:Haahhaaa, did you piss him off in a previous race? I've noticed he holds grudges....
Maybe. It'd been forever since I'd done an offline race with him in it. He's tried to PIT me unprovoked in the past, but that's the first time I've seen him do it at the beginning of a race.
Re: Forza 3 live update
I was supposed to have an online race with the Goons tonight, but got held up at work by a guy who had a problem that had absolutely nothing to do with us, but wouldn't let me go until I proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt, and was pissy and argumentative and resisted everything I tried to do within my power to get him to someone who could help him out every step of the way. And the night before I got held over by someone who really really wanted to order a porno for him and his other guy friend to watch but his set-top box was fucked and would not take, "We'll get someone out first thing tomorrow to fix it," for an answer even though there was nothing we could do over the phone.
