Need for Speed: Playable again?!?!
LINK
for those not in the know, slightly mad studios is connected with simbin/blimey, creators of the racing sims GTR/GTL/Race. This game uses that physics engine apparently Tone that physics engine down a little bit, add some close combat need for speed style racing, and you have yourself a real need for speed game
plus the sim bin ferrari game is complete, they are just waiting for approval from ferrari
Both games are PC/PS3/Xbox360
Plus they are making a new arcade style game for Wii that actually sounds pretty neat, sounds more like the hot persuit series

Re: Need for Speed: Playable again?!?!
I had seen shots of that, and I'd thought man that looks a hell of a lot like that "Race" game that's hitting the Xbox soon. Now I know why.

Yes, that would be why. I've played race 07 for PC, pretty good game, its more "entry level" sim than GTR though.

I'll buy it

8-9 minutes is forever when you're running the 'Ring.Aristotle wrote:that looks pretty damn nice.

Just for shits and giggles i tried doing an unmodified Triumph on that course in GT4 just to see the lap time. I pretty much did the same thing. five minutes in, and I hadn't even hit the Karrussel. :jay:

Re: Need for Speed: Playable again?!?!
They need to revise some of the old NFS games. Hot Pursuit and High Stakes mainly, those two were the best NFS games IMO.
Those graphics that dodge posted while blasting through the hills getting chased by some cop cars and a helicopter, fuck yeah.

Before I stopped buying EA games, I had a blast with some of those NFS games from NFS3: Hot Pursuit onward. NFS HP2 on the PS2 was fantastic. It absolutely sucked on the XBox due to different developers, but on the PS2, it was some of the most fun arcade-style driving you could get at the time.

I think my all time favorite was NFS: High Stakes. It definitely took it to the next level with pink slip racing.

I have that for the PC. But by the time I had enough computer to run it properly, the graphics had become hella-dated.
Re: Need for Speed: Playable again?!?!
I just really enjoyed the imaginary tracks that they came up with as well. All the street racing in Underground got boring.

NFS1 & 2 were the best because they were something new for their time.

They did come up with some great tracks. Very detailed and well-put-together.
Re: Need for Speed: Playable again?!?!
Impressive looking. But everyone knows the best NFS is the Porsche one (but only on PC).

Re: Need for Speed: Playable again?!?!
I really did enjoy the Porsche one, it's probably 3rd on my list behind High Stakes and Hot Pursuit.

Re: Need for Speed: Playable again?!?!
I would say
Porsche Unleashed
Hot Pursuit II
Carbon (I know..I know..but the police chases were so good)
NFS II
High Stakes
would be my top 5

Re: Need for Speed: Playable again?!?!
I liked Porsche Unleashed. I remember playing that on my lap top in the campus pub - when I was supposed to be working on my Independent Study.

Re: Need for Speed: Playable again?!?!
I loved how it was story based and racing based, was a great blend of the two that has since not been repeated in any successfully way ( way to fail PRO race driver, way to fail)

Porsche Unleashed was story based? Hmmm....I have that one and I don't remember a storyline. May have to go back and look at it.

Maybe not for console which I had, I just remember moving through the decades, no story line though.

There was a narrator and a text based story..apparently i'm the only one that payed attention

Re: Need for Speed: Playable again?!?!
Same here, I hardly played any of it.
Things have moved on a lot from the days of GT1-3. Hundreds of cars and fairly crappy handling isn't going to cut it anymore.

Re: Need for Speed: Playable again?!?!
eh? I liked GT4 better than GT3.
...or maybe I liked that fact that I didn't have to do the 24H of Lemans/Nurburgring by myself. I always lose my rhythm after I've paused, then taken a break/slept/gone to work/whatever and then come back to it.

well, I wouldn't have said it was lame, but GT4 was much better. My R33 was the shit when it was still competitive.

Re: Need for Speed: Playable again?!?!
Dude the police chases in Carbon were too easy. the Most Wanted chases were more involving, and you actually had little quotas to meet. I could have those Corvettes chasing me for forty minutes or so. so fun.Dodge wrote:I would say

Carbon (I know..I know..but the police chases were so good)
NFS II
High Stakes
would be my top 5
