Nope, you're completely wrong there. Halo 3 isn't even rendered as high as 720p (I believe it's 600p but done twice for each frame, or something like that.) All those games you mentioned are rendered at a fixed resolution 720p or lower and then the image scaled to whatever you choose. That's all the 1080p means on the back of the every single game case that came out since the upgrade to allow 1080p means.

The sort of games that are rendered natively at 1080p are much more visually basic games. Such as.

[native 1080p] Feeding Frenzy 2 [Xbox Live Arcade]
[native 1080p] Portal [Xbox Live Arcade]

Well actually, if you look at the graph (posted by VS half way down the first page) you will see that if you sit within 8 feet of the TV you begin noticing the benefit of 1080p over 720p on a 42" screen.

i said UNDER 42"

I sit 3 feet from the 26" in my room. That's 2 feet closer than you need to be to start noticing the difference.

Well, anyway, it looks like a new TV is out for now. I'm hoping we'll be able to move out of our current house and into a townhouse or something so I have to save up for that shit --- deposit, first month's rent, moving costs. I absolutely can't stand our living situation right now, despite some of the perks of the house (like the floor space, the kitchen, the master bathroom) so once our lease is up, we're ditching the roommate with the two cars and maybe getting into somewhere else.

So this whole thread has been for naught.

sony have a reputation but all the sets i saw looked like shit. crappy contrast and not very clear

Not really. I have it on a stand right next to my computer desk and watch it from there.

haha I do that to. Because my computer screen / desk is angled away from the TV.

I've found myself listening to the TV guide channel for hours before finally turning it off in disgust.

if i didn't have to keep the financial news on all the time, i'd just listen to public radio.

I also find the HDMI cable has a slight vibration in the picture that drives me fucking crazy so I use the component cable and optical audio.

That's cool. Hopefully the launch won't get scrubbed. The past few times I've driven way the fuck out there to see one, it's been scrubbed. I still haven't been to the KSC Visitor Complex, which is supposedly cool. I need to though; through UCF, we can get get the tickets for about half the regular price.
