Xbox One
Soooooo....
The good:
The controller looks like it's evolved pretty well. Still very similar to the old one but improved in ergonomics and function. The D-pad is supposedly much better, and the rumble triggers are very intriguing.
Kinect looks like it works a lot better and makes the interface really slick, though it looks like it may not fit on top of my TV as well as the current one does.
Anything you did to earn an achievement gets automatically recorded on the hard drive DVR, and lets you share it with others.
Game installs are required but you'll be able to play instantly during installation.
The instant switching between apps and snap mode looks good, and being able to use the XBox One as a cable box will be mighty nice if my provider supports it.
The bad:
It has to be online (though not necessarily all the time) and it'll make extensive use of cloud storage. Not being able to play single-player games just because my internet connection took a shit or my router's being finicky is stupid. They should have learned something from the whole SimCity debacle.
Microsoft's handling of the whole used games things is a huge clusterfuck. No one still knows exactly how that's going to work and MS did a horrible contradictory job of explaining it, but it sounds like you're going to have to pay something extra to play a used game.
No backwards compatibility, but I expected that and I hardly play any of my original XBox games anyway, so that won't be too much of an issue for me personally.
Minor thing: the name is dumb. I have an Xbox 1. Now there's an Xbox One.
It's got some great features and it looks like they cleaned up a lot of things that make the process of logging in, updating, and using the 360 interface annoying, and the games look great, but the online thing and the used games issue are some big sticking points.

Re: Xbox One
I read somewhere in some review you CAN play offline.
The used game/old game things suck, but neither affect me so I'm okay with that.
I just hope my $300 wheel and pedals work with the damn thing, and Forza 5.

Re: Xbox One
The make or break thing for them is the tv integration.
I doubt ill pick one up though... online multiplayer has never interested me and thats where games consoles are heading. And I assume the always on connectivity basically means you have to pay for xbox live?

I've heard it will depend on what's being run. If you're just playing a game, and it doesn't use cloud resources, you would just need to be on for a brief moment for XBox Live to validate your console, and then after that you're good. But I'm sure there will be at least a few games will require an always online connection.

I read that the TV integration may only initially be available in North America, but that could change.
Xbox Live (at least at the moment) has Silver and Gold subscriptions. Silver is free, but you miss out on a lot of content like online play. I would hope that the basic connection needed to run the console would still be free.
Re: Xbox One
It's more box-like than any of the other xboxes, that's for sure. Also, the built in DVR that lets you record shit from games is pretty awesome.

Re: Xbox One
Yeah. The guy behind the Fanatec wheels said if he CAN modify them to work with the XB1, he WILL.
But only time will tell at this point.
I was considering selling it last week anyways, they're selling on eBay for about what I paid for it since they're no longer available at that price.

Re: Xbox One
It looks like the always online thing isn't true. It appears that developers have the option to use cloud resources for their games, but the console won't be required to go online for single-player games unless the developer designs it that way.

i saw $499, but that was before the official release.
and is anyone else not blown away by that forza 5 trailer? it doesnt look a whole lot better than fourza to me. I was expecting somewhat photo realistic graphics.

I thought the detail of the tire, road debris, and flake in the paint and whatnot was a major step forward, so long as that's GAME footage and not just trailer fluff.
I'll just be happy if they make the tire smoke look better and update the tracks.

Re: Xbox One
There's also more hints of good stuff in that trailer, like all the atmospheric fog effects around the track, and lit headlights...
Re: Xbox One
IMO the GT games have always looked more realistic on average than forza games, not sure if it's because of the lighting or the coloring or what, but forza games have always had that slightly "cartoonish" look to them.

Re: Xbox One
its atmospheric perspective. the farther away things are, the more muted the color. Polyphony's been pretty good about rendering that into their games realistically since probably GT3; it works to help you judge distances like you would in the real world. In Forza, the skies and air are clear and visibility is very good, but I found myself misjudging distances at first, even if I turned the line on.

Re: Xbox One
i hope they let you change the interior of the cars to race parts at some point. i dont like having a 1000hp 510 with the stock wafer-thin steering wheel. also, give us fatter tires, jesus.
