Xbox geeks
My 2006 360 died for the second time today. 2 years ago I got the Red Ring and fixed it myself, today I got the E74. Dont really want to open it up again so I bought a refurbished Jasper unit on Ebay for $130. They are supposed to run cooler and be more reliable than any of the others, even the Slims. So whats better? A used Jasper or new Slim? Should I have spent 60 more for a new Slim?

My warranty expired years ago so I'm SOL. And it takes 3-6 weeks to get it back anyway. Fuck that.

Re: Xbox geeks
I've yet to have an issue with my PS3 (NOT STARTING A WAR HERE, suggesting something... read on). Just because I know these gamesystems have overheating issues, besides the obvious of keeping it in an open location, I put a little desk fan next to it that blows past the back of the unit (where all the heat is coming out). I used to only turn it on when I knew I'd be playing for a long time, but it's become habit and I turn it on every time I turn on the PS3 now. I figure the more air that can circulate around the thing the better.
Just started doing it a few years ago as a precaution. Worth doing, IMO.

Nothing's been officially announced, but a lot of industry experts are betting on the 2013 holiday season.
Re: Xbox geeks

I had the matte black Elite for years and it was SO LOUD. It finally started crapping out on me so Forrest bought me the Star Wars XBOX as an early Christmas gift. I love it.

I find it odd how a company can make such a shit product that is always breaking, but end up making more money because of it... due to people buying multiple boxes.
And, yea, my 360 is super loud... sounds like a chainsaw.

Re: Xbox geeks
The first time I started playing on the new one, I had to turn my TV down... didn't realize how loud it actually was so I could hear it over the old XBOX. Yikes.
The Kinect is pretty neat although I haven't actually played any games using it. Too busy meandering my way through Skyrim.

its because there are no better alternatives. the ps3 may be better built but its just lame. mainly the shitty controller. it was ok back in the day cuz its all we had. but the 360 controller is much better. psn sucks too.

Re: Xbox geeks
that's why i generally wait a year or so after the launch of a new platform to get one. that way they get all the bugs out.

Lame? 99% of the games are for both systems. Controller is your opinion... the 360 controller makes me feel like I have carpel-tunnel after 20 minutes.
Xbox might have a better online, but you pay for it and it doesn't do you any good if the system is consistently down. I've had my CC hacked on XBL, too.

forza is better than gt is too. and its not opinion that the controller design is pushing 20 years old. it has a d-pad where the joystick should be and vice versa.

GAH, now my new xbox isnt recognizing discs. Looks like I'll have to send it back to the seller and get a new slim.
The bullshit thing is the guy's return policy is that the buyer pays return shipping. You pay asshole, you're the one who sold me a broken Xbox.

Re: Xbox geeks
I remember how loud my DVD drive was, then it red-ringed and when they fixed that, they replaced the drive with a quieter one too.
After that I got a HD and started installing the games to it, so the drive never had to run. Makes games run faster too.

They do recognize external hard drives? I may have to invest in one.

I've played Forza 3 and 4. They're quite fun, but...
aside from small stupid little luxuries (like painting your car however you want, etc.) and game setup (which really neither one is better, just different) they're the same goddamn game. when you get out on the track and race the cars and get down to it, everything works exactly the same. all the cars handle like they're supposed to in both games, and in exactly the same manner (they plow like a bitch if you overcook the turn). you can quibble over graphics, rendering, SFX, small, insignificant differences in handling characteristics, online gameplay, car selection, DLC availability (the latter two I will concede Forza has the one-up on GT) whatever. you play GT, you've played Forza. You play Forza, you've played GT.
you can dissent all you want, but you're only kidding yourself. they're the same game.
the Emperor has no clothes on, BTW.
can we please stop beating each other with our own penises now, please?

They have their own proprietary drives..... although I think read somewhere that yes, you can use a PC HD.
I have a shitty Arcade, which came with no HD, just a 128MB memory card like an old PS2.

Yeah. I switched my payment method over to PayPal for whatever protection they can offer. Mostly for points because I'm too lazy to go get point cards.
Fortunately, the one time it happened to me, they emptied out my 800 points and spent like another $30 or something. Wasn't worth getting my account frozen for MONTHS while they investigated.

FWIW, I called XBL and got through right away. The guy was pretty cool and flagged my account in case something happened in the future, as well as took my CC off file. He couldn't do anything, however, about refunding my money (two, $75 charges). My CC company did me right there, though, refunding the money immediately and - eventually - solving the dispute, and sending me a new card . So, I didn't lose any money, but still a hassle.
