Re: Dodge's autox thread
didn't have time to setup a camera in my car (finished getting it together 2 days before autox)
but grant did for one run on low boost due to an ignition issue, he ran similar times to me

Haha you have the shittiest 240 there. Sadly I know all too well what that feels like.
Looks like fun though.

Awesome. I so want to auto-x but never seem to have a decent car in season. Looks like great fun.

Re: Dodge's autox thread
yeah it was one of the most fun things i've done in my life. So satisfying to compete in something you built too, that car was nothing but a bare chassis 6 months ago

i don't actually like it, but it kills time... it's a bit too easy, though...
Re: Dodge's autox thread
it is pretty easy, the thing i hated was having to drive everywhere any time you wanted to go somewhere. midnight club lets you teleport after you drive there the first time.

Re: Dodge's autox thread
DSG is about as far as I would go for an automatic. My next vehicle WILL be a manual.
Unless its a GMC Sierra or Dodge Ram, then by default it would have to be an automatic.

That S30 is gorgeous. Looks like you had fun with it. I'd love to get my hands on an S14A similar to the one you posted.
I need to autocross again, its been too long.

Re: Dodge's autox thread
There was an automatic mustang out there, and it did horribly, it was constantly changing gears on a course 75% of us were just staying in 2nd gear in the whole thing, and it was making HORRIBLE noises as it shifted, i've never heard an automatic grind as bad as that thing was
but as far as autox cars go, i've put about 1200$ into that red 240 at this point, and it was an absolute blast, ive got about 3000$ in suspension parts to go through before the rest of the season, this was just a test race to make sure the drivetrain was squared away...but there's no NEED to spend that much to get into it, I'm just doing it cause i've always wanted to work on a suspension system and the time is right

AutoX is pretty fun for something that you can take almost anything to relatively cheaply.

Re: Dodge's autox thread
it's too bad the hood and headlight covers on your old 240 got toasted. I'm starting to like the black hood look on Japanese imports (course it's only useful if it's a matte finish)

Re: Dodge's autox thread
we are going to paint it at home I think, buying a spray gun soon.
I am thinking a dark cherry red will be the color choice, and i'm going to spray the interior gray

Re: Dodge's autox thread
not bad looking. is that about the same color as the front end is now, or is it slightly darker?

Re: Dodge's autox thread
update time
Autox #4 on the year report.
Coilovers=GOOD /fin (stance GR+)
In detail though: what a massive improvement, so much, it turned into a cone slaughtering day for me, as the car responded so much better I was constantly cutting corners too tight and catching cones with the rr. This was the first time I drove the car to the event, which went fine. The bad was the tires, at a tread wear rating of 440, and with 205's up front and 225's in rear, it had a pretty nasty understeer through the tighter turns, and of course this happened to be a very tight technical course. Through the slaloms I thought the car felt great. After about run #4 we noticed the front tires turning white around the edges of the sidewall, and it was about that run that the grip had just completely given out, so I went 3/4 of the way soft on the front coils and middle with the rears, run #5 was okay, but run #6 we had a little bit longer of a delay between runs, and it gave it just enough time to cool the tires for what was my best run of the day, a 57.6 (+1), a good improvement from my run#1 at a 62.5.
Here's video of that run:
http://flic.kr/p/8wwFXc
Video of first run:
http://flic.kr/p/8wwm7a
Video of nice panic/save
http://flic.kr/p/8wvv8M
As for results, I think i was third or fourth in class, couldnt keep up with the 2 regional champs in a bmw 318 on sticky "cheater slicks" as they called them...but did manage to nab fastest pax rookie of the race for the third time this season :thumb:

Re: Dodge's autox thread
those aren't the same tires you use on the street are they? you should use two different sets for street and track, mostly to avoid the wear problem.
I mean you wouldn't wanna run a marathon in Converses, right?

i wouldn't want to run a marathon.
also, i'd rather have some proper supersports street tyres, to use on the streets and the track, than 2 sets, just for convenience's sake. sad thing is the price, though. but don't you go through about a set every 10k km anyway?
Re: Dodge's autox thread
I'm going to eventually get just one set, the car will only be driven a total of maybe 50 miles a month other than the events, and for most of them it will be trailered there, this one happens to be close to home.
as for why they suck, its because they were free...came with the wheels. I had to get off the 15/195/60's though, it was too much of handful with them. With the expense of the suspension I don't have the budget to put tires on it for this season, looking to get some star specs for next season though

Re: Dodge's autox thread
Haha, nice save. If I had a nickle for every time I ended an auto-x session with the wipers on or something...
And yea, if it's one thing I've learned while doing events, it's tires and brakes tires and brakes tires and brakes. The tires were my Eclipse's Achilles heal. 225 street tires all around. The Acura has 235's all around but the car is lighter and the Dunlop Z1s are better than the KDWs on the Eclipse. Even still anything with track tires was frustratingly quicker just because of that.
Anyway, I drive my cars to the track too and lugging an extra set of wheels/ tires there and back isn't an option, so I see where you're coming from. I don't DD the car, however... if I did I'd buy some cheapo all seasons and put my high-performance street tires on the car before driving to the event.
Have fun Auto-xing while you can; once you make it to a "real" track it'll ruin auto-xing forever.
