Re: Fantasy Football
how do they decide the draft positioning? is it first come, first draft? lottery?

On this one, the site randomly selected the draft order for the first round. In the second round, whoever picked last in the first round picked first and it went backwards from the first round order. Then it went back the other way in the third round, and so on...
There were 12 teams, and in the first round, I picked 9th.

Re: Fantasy Football
I have a draft next thurs and next friday. Unfortunately only one money league.
While betting money wouldn't be all that interesting with randoms, I don't see why you wouldn't add a bit of cash to give that extra incentive when you're in a league with friends.
Both keeper leagues too. In the one that matters I am keeping LT and Randy Moss.

Indiana Tornadoes
Player
Brees, Drew QB NO
Good QB pick, he had an off season last year and Shockey should add another dimension. I've never had good fantasy QBs, Vick 2 yrs ago and a mix of Schaub/Cutler last yr.
Barber, Marion RB DAL
Fucking awesome pick. Unless Felix Jones turns out to steal carries he'll be top 5 easily
White, LenDale RB TEN
I can't say a whole lot of great things about this guy. Sharing carries and perennially out of shape. If he has significant value in your league I'd suggest trading. This statement may come back to make me look dumb.
Curry, Ronald WR OAK
Rule 1 in fantasy - never pick a Raider. I despise this pick.
Harrison, Marvin WR IND
Probably some favoritism in this pick but hard to go wrong. Old and injury prone though, I'm specifically avoiding him despite owning him in previous years
Holmes, Santonio WR PIT
Someone has to catch Roethlisberger's passes. Could be his breakout 3rd yr (I think)
Gates, Antonio TE SD
The only thing I don't like about this pick is that it was probably really early to get gates. I'm specifically waiting on a TE to get a riskier guy like a Shockey or a Tony Scheffler (someone will own him by week 4 if not already).
Vinatieri, Adam K IND
Again some favoritism - I don't like spending anyhthing but the last pick on a kicker. It's all too likely that some shitty red zone team will have an ace kicker and take a ton of FGs. Cards guy did well last year. I'd bet on Detroit's kicker.
DEF Steelers DST
I've been playing IDP the last few years so don't know team D but the Steelers are usually a solid pick especially later in the season (i.e. playoffs) when it's cold as hell at Heinz Field.
RESERVES
Cutler, Jay QB DEN
I predict you will have a QB controversy - he played a relatively good year last year. With undiagnosed diabetes.
Taylor, Fred RB JAC
Hate it. This is the year MJD will finally fucking take over after frustrating fantasy owners for 2 years now.
Hester, Devin WR CHI
I hope returns count. I don't trust return man converts.
Heap, Todd TE BAL
You don't need two TEs, particularly two TEs that you might've had to spend a good pick on. Heap's best days appear behind him now
DEF Buccaneers DST
You DEFINITELY don't need two Ds. Use the extra slot to grab flyers off the waiver wire to see if they work out.
This is assuming QB/2RB/2WR/1TE/1D/1K and std. scoring. Although I'm not sure my leagues run that (1pt/10 rush/rec yds, 1pt/25 pass yds, 6 pts for all TDs). And if the TE slot is a flex then you definitely don't need two.
If you can get these guys for cheap/free do so. They're on my list of guys I want.
QB:
If you have a free spot you may want to pick up either Matt Ryan, Jamarcus Russell or Leinart. Crunch time for the last two and Ryan may be able to pull together some #s.
WR:
Calvin Johnson - mark my words he will match Roy Williams in production. I hope Martz leaving doesn't doom Kitna.
Lee Evans - benefits from Edwards not being a rook anymore. Deep threat.
Roddy White seems to be gaining a rapport with Matt Ryan.
RB:
Ricky Williams - the phins can produce RB numbers while losing every single game
Reggie Bush - lots of folks are down on him, you may be able to pick him up cheap. I guarantee you if you're throwing Gates' name around that you could get a player of his caliber. Good TE = great rushing numbers.
Rashard Mendenhall - Willie's injury prone and they're a great offense period. Shove anyone in and get 100yds+TD
TE:
Shockey
Tony Scheffler - Broncos guy. Will break out, he had great numbers when Shanahan let him on the field
I think too much about this stuff.

Re: Fantasy Football
Sneaky TE pickup might be Alge Crumpler - running QBs often lean on the dump pass to the TE since by the time they scramble all the WRs are too far away.
And Crump's the king of scramble support.

Re: Fantasy Football
I was thinking I might have read the rules wrong...it was my understanding that I had to draft 2 defenses and 2 TEs. But taking another look at the rules, I think I was reading the rules for auto drafting and not live drafting. Oops.
I picked late in the odd rounds and early in the even rounds, so I was able to get a good QB/RB combo early. I'm not too crazy about the WR situation myself, though I think Marvin will have a good year (yes, a bit of favoritism did play into that, but he was one of the top 3 receivers left by the time I got around to him). If Jamarcus Russell turns out to have a great season, the Curry pick might pan out.
The Viniateri pick was one of those in the odd rounds, where I was going to get another pick in just a few more turns. It was later in the draft and one of those situations where conventional wisdom might have said pick him next round and get a WR this round, but I think it was the next pick where I got Curry and most receivers available at the time were about as risky or meh, so went ahead with the kicker.
Hester is my gamble pick where I'll either look like a blithering idiot or a goddamned genius. There were better 4th option WRs available, but I took a chance that he might do something this year. We'll see how that goes. Heap was my next to last pick before the reserve defense.

Re: Fantasy Football
You can probably drop Taylor and people will only pick him up to handcuff MJD. He may have some trade value based on that though.
And I suggest trading Gates. I just don't like having that much value at TE, he's probably worth more to someone else and you can definitely pick up a solid WR for his services.

Although depending on how good the people in your league are it may be more or less difficult to trade. Less experienced fantasy people don't always know the value of that they have.

Re: Fantasy Football
well, i'm in a keeper league and have the option of keeping up to 2 of my players. if i don't, then i'll enter a preliminary draft to fill my pre-draft roster to 2 players.
Marc Bulger - STL QB
Nate Burleson - SEA WR
Jay Cutler - DEN QB
Owen Daniels - HOU TE
Donald Driver - GB WR
Jeff Garcia - TB QB
Edgerrin James - ARI RB
Shaun McDonald - DET - WR
Heath Miller - PIT TE
Willie Parker - PIT RB
Antwaan Randle El - WAS WR
Selvin Young - DEN WR
Kris Brown - Hou K
San Diego - D
i have no idea.
Jay Cutler will probably have a great year, and i personally think that Selvin Young will too. but i'm not sure that keeping either is the right move.

While I definitely have some weak spots, I haven't made any changes. There's just not anything better left in free agency. The way my luck goes, if I make a change, the person I dump will end up doing great.

Well, if she likes watching powerhouse teams that give their players Escalades and houses play 8 out of 12 games at home against teams that can't afford goalposts, that's her bag I guess. At least she likes some kind of football.
However, NFL > College football.

I make all your teams look like pure garbage. This is my non-pay team and sort of sucks because I had a bad keeper pool to choose from. I took over the team who finished 2nd last.

I saw that Reggie Williams (WR, JAC) was just released, and I'm going to try and claim him off waivers and dump Todd Heap. I'm second in line on the waiver wire, so we'll see how it goes. Looks to be a good TD scorer, but not much of a yardage guy and just coming off a hamstring injury, though will probably be a better 3rd or 4th option that what I have now.
