Winter tires or exhaust for my rex?
Slid on some ice the other day, not sure if it was mainly because I have summer tires on or if it would have happened anyway. Also want an exhaust, you just can't hear that sweet boxer sound too wellll on the stock one. So what would you spring for?

If you've got summers and not all-seasons, then definitely go for the winter tires. A nicer exhaust note is find and dandy, but you shouldn't be sliding around...unintentionally, anyway.

Not even a question. If you have summer tires on you need to invest in a second set for winter. Especially if you're already sliding around. Aesthetic improvements shouldn't come at the expensive of safety concerns.

Well, I've only ever slid that one time. Back when it snowed in October I didn't have any trouble at all. But you guys are probably right.

yeah. if you don't get some proper shoes, you won't even have to worry about a nicer exhaust.

Tires, not even close. It hasn't even snowed hard yet.

PS - I told you this like six months ago. Don't fuck around or you won't have a car to put an exhaust on.

Tire Rack has some good close out deals now that the snow tire buying season is over. I had a customer buy some year old Michelin Xice tires for $160 per for his Mazdaspeed3 (215/45R18), normally they are over $200ea.

I think several of us told you this six months ago when you should have splurged and bought a set when they were still cheap. Now they're hella expensive.

Re: Winter tires or exhaust for my rex?
I run these on the Evo (Dunlop Winter Sport M3s):

I think they're 225/45/17. A friend of mine bought in STi, got these, used them for a winter, then moved to SC as I bought my Evo so I bought them from him for $90/ea.
For a winter/snow tire they drive and handle pretty well.

That's just an overpriced all-season (read, useless in real snow) Michelin.
Here, a size narrower (which is better for snow), cheap, great (ran them myself and sell a lot of them), and easy to find replacements if you have a blowout or something:

Re: Winter tires or exhaust for my rex?
A lot of jurisdictions have laws about studs (illegal in Southern Ontario), and I'd say frankly you probably don't need them unless you're regularly driving in really thick snow/ice.clockbreaker wrote:Would you get the studding?

Re: Winter tires or exhaust for my rex?
Yeah, they're illegal here in WI, but if you can get them where you live, be prepared to listen to them plinking along on the road all the live long day.
Oh wait, I just remembered, I HATED THOSE TIRES.
'Cause they gripped too good.
Took all the fun out of sliding around in the winter time.

Re: Winter tires or exhaust for my rex?
I'd probably get the exhaust and die a short time later.
