Miscellaneous Video Game Thread
Seems we've been piggybacking the Forza thread to talk about other game so lets do it here.
So I bought Madden 12 and it sucks. I knew it would. Gameplay is alright but it's very choppy and the replays are always freezing. Like if a replay is 10 seconds, it will show the first two and freeze the remaining eight, then jump back to the play. There is nothing new and the franshise is shit. I basically bought it because Peyton Hillis is on the cover.
I just picked up Gears 3 yesterday. Had to dust off the ol' 360, but this game is basically the reason I still have it. So I put the game in, fresh out of the box and the Xbox tells me it can't read the disc, wipe it off and restart the system. WTF? Here we go again. So I restarted it and it worked the second time. Played the game about an hour and I like it thus far. Probably the only TPS I like.
Coming up, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon and CoD: MW3. Damn I can't wait for MW3. BO was shit, so I am hoping MW3 is an updated MW2. Was thinking about getting NHL12 but I have NHL09 and the recent shit that is Madden 12 has left a bad taste in my mouth regarding EA Sports.

Yeah I can't wait for MW3 either. MW2 was pretty awesome...especially after I learned how to shoot down AC130's
and the storyline left you hanging in just the right way that you actually looked forward to the sequel, rather than being disappointed that they didn't finish the story.
and hopefully, you finally get the chance to shoot Makarov in the face outside of a museum.
Plus, those fake Time covers they had at Gamestop for a while were nice little teases.

I hope at the end of the game they dig Shepherd up and dump his body unceremoniously into the Potomac.

I loved MW2. It had a few issues but most people blew it way out of proportion. I played the hell out of that game online, and the single player was pretty good, too.
My buddy preordered it and got that poster. Pretty cool. I haven't yet but I will eventually.

I can't wait for MW3, I am going to be disappointed if the single player campaign is short again, the game is mostly for multiplayer. Multiplayer isn't fun unless you are at level 50, because they throw you in with people that are at level 54 and you might as well drop trou, because you're gonna get butt raped anyway. They really need to keep you with other people that are around the same level you are to keep it fair.
I want Gears 3 too, even though I havent played 2.

honestly though, I don't own it, and I only ever played the multiplayer, but it didn't seem like it was that bad...just not MW2 good.

Yep, you're right about leveling. And all the highschoolers and college peeps are level 50 before I can even pick the game up after work. They know the maps better, they have better guns and attachments, and they have better perks. But, there are going to be growing pains regardless so you just have to put in the time and some hard knocks or you'll never catch up.
MW2 was out for two months before I ever played online... and I got raped, again and again and again. Once you learn the maps (90% of it) and get some guns, you can turn the tables quite easily. I did. Ended up being pretty good, actually.

BO online was okay. I wasn't really impressed with the gun selection, attachments, etc. But, that comes with the territory of being in the Cold War time period. MW is way better because with the more modern atmosphere, the guns and killstreaks are way better. Barrett, ACR, SCAR, Vector, etc; Pavelow, Harrier strike, C130 (:talon2). The game play and maps were just a few steps better, too.
It was fun playing BO with friends, and I did level to the 50 max, but overall MW2 was just better in every aspect.
BO single player sucked. I tried to play through it a second time but couldn't. MW1 had the best single player FPS out there, IMO.

A few games im looking forward to - Forza 4 of course, Batman Arkham City, Saints Row 3, Assassin's Creed Revelations, and Mass Effect 3. Ill play MW3 mainly for the campaign but dont get into multiplayer too much because I get pretty angry at the bullshit things that happen alot in online play.

And I'm like one of the 10 people in the country that doesnt really care about Gears of War. I have the first one and played a bit of the second one, but could never really get into it. I LOVE mass effect though, I played the shit out of those games and cant wait for the third one.

I thought Gears 1 was okay, but really liked 2. 3 is pretty good thus far; played some more tonight.
One thing I don't get about some shooters is you don't get to keep your primary gun very long. Seems like after killing a dozen or so bad guys, I ultimately run out of ammo for my primary and have to pick up one of the bad guy guns and use that the majority of the time. I remember one of the old WWII CoDs was like that... didn't use the Thompson too much and more the MP40. Lemme use my own gun.

Friends of mine just finished Gears 3 tonight, after having got it like two days ago (whenever it was released). Says it was pretty damn epic, and a fitting end to the trilogy.

Re: Miscellaneous Video Game Thread
So I am a good five hours into Gears 3 and this game is fantastic. The gameplay is really good, as are the various missions and bad guys. Best video game since MW2 IMO.

Re: Miscellaneous Video Game Thread
So I finished Gears 3 today. Damn, that game was phenomenal. I seriously give it a 9.5/10. That's the best game I've played in a long time. Everythng was good. Not that any of you will see this cuz you'll all be homoing it up in the Forza thread, but when you can put that game down Gears is very very very worth it.
Now on to Ace Combat: Assault Horizon. Hopefully start this one this week[end]. Gotta get it done before MW3 which I reserved yesterday.

And holy shit, a new Ratchet and Clank comes out on Tuesday!
Why is it all the good games seem to come out at the same time?

We had Bushido on the 8086 back in the early 80s. My friend had a samurai game on PS1 wich was basically a one on one fighting game only first person in large levels. Very violent.

I've wondered that for years. Make them come out on the weekend when people wont have to call out of work or school to play em.

If you have cats, beware. New xboxes power on by touch rather than an actual button and your cats WILL figure that out and you WILL come home to your xbox mysteriously powered up.

My DVD/Bluray surround sound thingy is like that too. I have it on a power strip that stays off when no one is using it though. Kitty thwarted.

PS3's power on that way. Cats end up turning those on too by rubbing up against it. I guess they like it because they get warm.xtine wrote:If you have cats, beware.
