Alfa 4C or Jaguar C-X16
Call it the battle of the alternative (ie. slightly undesirable, non-German) brands. These cars promise to be awesome and could really help bring their fortunes up to the levels of Audi, BMW and MB. At the same time, it's hard to shake the niggling feeling that each car will be buggered up in some unforgivable way.

Jag for me. I've always loved the e-type, and with the prices those are going for now, that's about as close to owning one as I'm going to get I think.

Jag, the Alfa is just too poorly executed for me. The 2uettottanta would be a much better Alfa to build, but evidently Sergio disagrees...

the 2ettottanta was gorgeous too, but there's nothing saying that won't be the new Spider.

Nothing except the published production schedules. In half-a-decade Mazda will also have brought in the new MX-5. If it is as light as they're trying to get it, with styling as good as it could be with their new design language, then it will be a case of "Alfa who??"...Turbojett wrote:the 2ettottanta was gorgeous too, but there's nothing saying that won't be the new Spider.

well there's a place for Mazda's design language, but a comparatively simplistic Alfa like that will also have it's own charm. Granted they'll be in the same competing class but it'll be two different schools: Japanese stylistic drama and Italian stylistic elegance. It can still work, I think.

I don't know if I'd frame it as drama vs. elegance. The new Alfa concept in the 4c isn't very elegant as it lacks the flow and simplicity of past works, and the Kodo concept of Mazda is quite refined. It will be really interesting to see how this plays out. Mazda apparently have decided that framing themselves as a Japanese Alfa-Romeo is going to be their approach, and it will make for an interesting rivalry...Turbojett wrote:well there's a place for Mazda's design language, but a comparatively simplistic Alfa like that will also have it's own charm. well I was referring more to the duetto than the 4c, taking into account the style on the Shinari. but you do have a point; looking farther ahead if the 4c's style is going to speak for future Alfas, I'd say they switched schools.

I recall everyone comparing the original Mzda 6 to the 156, even though they had nothing in common other than being attractive medium-sized sedans. It seems that lately Mazda is more interested in being the Japanese Peugeot, in a battle of the big smiley-faces. Alfa was better.
