Not many games let you drive an AMC Pacer and an Olds Vista Cruiser.
But the upcoming Driver: San Francisco will.
I'm very wary of Driver games anymore, but this one has been shaping up to be pretty interesting. I may have to check this one out, especially given the car list.

What the hell am I doing on AF then? (peels out)
Re: Not many games let you drive an AMC Pacer and an Olds Vista Cruiser.
Played two out of the three missions on the demo. Cut scenes are NICE, I don't play a lot of games but DAMN. Nice cut scenes. Graphics aren't too shabby, lots of motion blur when you're driving quickly and stupid pedestrians jump out of the way like in the old Driver games, so its very anti-GTA.
Jay, I t-boned a Vista Cruiser for you. In my GT-R.
The shift thing is kinda explained but leaves a lot of holes so far (hey, its a demo) but works kinda neat. Got to fuck around in a Solstice coupe after shifting from the mainstay Challenger, and jump between the GT-R and a Camaro in mission two.
I'm sure the actual game will have a free roam mode, as they say there's 210 miles of road and most of San Fran available. Including the hills. Got lots of airtime.
Only problem I have is car control. They understeer FAR too much for a Driver game, and occasional stabs at the e-brake barely bring the tail out. More on that later, I may just need to adapt my driving style away from Forza for a bit.
I will buy it when it comes out, the missions seem easy enough (so far), the driving is fun, the graphics good (hello, cut scenes), the story kinda wonky but hey, why NOT shift from a damaged Challenger to something more fun (Pacer) and not as broke down during a chase?

Re: Not many games let you drive an AMC Pacer and an Olds Vista Cruiser.
This game, set in a single city, has more miles of road than the "cross-country" NFS:The Run
The graphics are quite nice...the framerate is smooth, and the cars look pretty detailed for no more than what the game is. The in-car animations for spinning the wheel, shifting, and hitting the horn are all well done. And all the cars are fun in their own way, even the fucking FWD Impala taxis (and it was hella cool watching a FWD burnout from the side view in a base Neon). It's a neat touch to jump into a car and hear random strangers' conversation in media res, though I imagine that's going to get old...probably only have a couple of different things to hear per car type.
The car control is a bit understeery, but better than I expected. I kept fucking up and hitting the wrong button for the e-brake...that'll take some getting used to. Getting away from the cops is challenging, but it's awesome flying up and down the SF hills. The race in the demo was a cool idea...I thought it was going to be hard as balls at first, but even though it wasn't easy it wasn't a chore.
And I agree, this will be a buy, not a rental. Really fun.

Re: Not many games let you drive an AMC Pacer and an Olds Vista Cruiser.
I spend a good hour last night just zooming out in shift and looking around the city. Driving in the opposite direction on the freeway was fun.
I'm surprised at the amount of damage they let you do to actual cars. I trashed a Neon by repeatedly turning in front of a car transporter (which are fun to jump off of too) and smashed in the rear, sides, lost my trunk, all kinds of cool stuff. The wheels are wrong, but oh well. The cars are all detailed pretty well. I was hoping we could USE the interior view, rather than just watch it during mission intros, but oh well.
The convo with passengers was hilarious, I jumped into a Vista Cruiser and some guy kept saying with a Mexican accent "Ma! Slow down! Don't scratch the paint!" as I was doing brake stands and donuts and jumping the huge thing off of hills.

This is why I wish more games had a clutch function. In some cars (hell, most) clutch kicking is so much more effective than an e-brake yank.Only problem I have is car control. They understeer FAR too much for a Driver game, and occasional stabs at the e-brake barely bring the tail out. More on that later, I may just need to adapt my driving style away from Forza for a bit.

The conversation between the passenger and driver when you switch cars is pretty entertaining.

I have clutch kicked my car once. Never again.

broke the welds right off the clutch pedal it got snagged on the neutral switch and it ripped the whole thing apart. completely unnecessary with s13's anyway, it was just one of those hey I wonder what this is like moments

useless fact of the day, 88-94 240sx's had unusually weak spot welds in the clutch pedal assembly. Now you know. I still have it, mangled, somewhere :jay:
Re: Not many games let you drive an AMC Pacer and an Olds Vista Cruiser.
Found Diablo. Did 207mph. Didn't seem fast enough.
Shit, I SAW a turn, and had time to slow for it. Really? *sigh*
Bonus points though! I shifted into it, passenger screaming about my driving, I TOTALED the car, shifted out of it, then drove my new car over to it and watched the black driver get yelled at by his fat white female passenger. FUNNEH.

FUCK XBL.
The norm for some time has been that newly-released demos are usually only available to gold members for a week, then silver members can get it.
Re: Not many games let you drive an AMC Pacer and an Olds Vista Cruiser.
You'll need Gold for the multi-player demo coming out soon anyway. Pay up, sucker.

How bout you explain to me how the GT-R does RWD burnouts when the car is AWD?
Still awesome though. Can't wait for the full game.

Found a bunch of videos outlining the multiplayer mode, my fav so far is the Trailblazer mode, where the point of the game is to stay within the tail lights of the leading car.... watch for the fire truck, best blocker evar!
P.S. check out the other cars in the game.... wow.

Re: Not many games let you drive an AMC Pacer and an Olds Vista Cruiser.
I noted a lot of cars that aren't legal/shouldn't be in San Fran but who cares.
I pre-ordered because of the multiplayer vids. Can't wait. At least it'll hold me over for the month before FM4 comes out.

Re: Not many games let you drive an AMC Pacer and an Olds Vista Cruiser.
i'm actually fairly impressed, looks a lot like wheelman, might just have to pick this up
Re: Not many games let you drive an AMC Pacer and an Olds Vista Cruiser.
I almost rented/bought Wheelman, but didn't want to hear Vin Diesel all night long.
Re: Not many games let you drive an AMC Pacer and an Olds Vista Cruiser.
lol his role was pretty small in it really, it was a really well laid out game in my opinion
Re: Not many games let you drive an AMC Pacer and an Olds Vista Cruiser.
Why the fuck is there an Airport Fire Truck just tooling around San Fransisco?

Hmm, thought I posted that the Driver multiplayer demo came out yesterday...... ANYWHO, it is FREAKIN AWESOME.
You all need to get it. I spent 4 hours last night just having a blast. I have never had so much fun online. Never got pissed at the game (thanks Shift!), and was actually laughing and going "WHOO!" while playing because it was such a great time. God that sounds gay. Y'all MUST try it.
