Re: quick, someone give me 35k
no thanks. it's merely just a really cool, all-original hunk of crap.
maybe if it had the later engine (either the 90's one or the 2004 one) that actually, y'know, worked.
or maybe I'd rather have the black one that was on AF years ago with the FD rotary swap.

Don't those things only have like 130hp? Cool factor aside, that's got to be slower than shit.

To be honest. I like DeLoreans as much as you Honor, but it's not worth $35k. 3,300 miles means there are going to be major issues if someone started to drive it on the weekends or something. Cars that sit then are sold 30 years later, are just as bad a a car with 150k .
If they said $15k, then I would say that was an appropriate price. Luckily there are a couple companies that sell resto parts for DeLoreans now.

You dont buy every car to be fast. Like what if you were gonna buy a Model T or something?
But yeah, they definitely were underpowered. I cant wait until summer so I can get my hands on one in Forza 3 and make it have the power to match it's looks.

Oh I wouldnt buy that unless I hit the 150 million powerball or something. There are other cars I'd rather have for that price, like a used C5 Z06, 370Z, or an Evo. If it werent for BTTF I'd probably wouldnt think much of DeLoreans.

To be fair though, all cars from the early 80s more or less were much weaker and slower than they should have been. Even a Camaro with a 350 had like 170hp and the Corvette had 200. It was a sad time for performance cars.

True, even a Testarossa had "only" 390hp, and did 0-60 in a shade under 6 seconds. Ferrari would scoff at that performance today.

Re: quick, someone give me 35k
Regardless of having 130 hp, it was never really a sports car. As Jay Leno said in one of his recent webisodes that it's more or less a Grand Tourer, a car to just cruise in.
If I were to get one though, there would definitely be an engine swap, probably with some form of a Jap V6.

No. I'll pass! Always thought the DeLorean to be rather ugly.

And I would probably use a Honda engine opposed to a Toyota engine.

There's not a lot of point to a DeLorean unless you're keeping it stock. Or BTTFing it.

here's the black Rotary DMC I was talking about earlier. Apparently it's a 3-rotor, 20B from the Eunos Cosmo, not an FD.

Either way, 130hp? It should be at least able to get out of its own way.

all those cars were slow. the mustang gt only had 165hp iirc. the 5.0 camaro had like 155. it was pathetic. even a kia from today would probably be faster.

I don't care about other cars. The Euro DeLorean had like 200hp. I could live with that.

Re: quick, someone give me 35k
here's a question for you : in back to the future 3, why did doc and marty even bother trying to see how fast a team of horses could pull the delorean? did they honestly think they would even close to 88mph?

Re: quick, someone give me 35k
probably desperation. there wasn;t much back then that could go very fast other than, well...a train.
actually that may ever have been embellished a bit, I don't think the trains could get up that fast back then either. not if train robbers could ride a hose up alongside them and keep decent pace.

And anyway, there had to have been some quick fix for the fuel line that they could have implemented in time to get them the hell out of there before Tannen shot Doc (or Marty). maybe some sort of crude welding technique or a splice. And I know they had gasoline back then. They had oil, and the car was invented the year afterwards. Plus ol' Hank Ford was already building small engines in his sink basin.

Re: quick, someone give me 35k
also, they could have built a hot air balloon, lifted the delorean up a couple thousand feet, and then dropped it. would easily reach 88mph. then of course you would have to trust your life to a parachute made by doc brown.

actually i guess it would take a pretty big fucking balloon to lift a car. like approaching zeppelin size.
