Re: looks like i'll be playing ***** * MASS: WE PRAY
So I played some of the demo. Thought it would be a little bigger, but I like the game none-the-less. I did a race with every car. Physics wise it seems pretty good, though I pulled off some mad powerslides that wouldn't really have happened, but whatever.
Only thing I was disapointed in was when shifting the driver never reached his or her hand down to simulate moving the stick. Also, when in the Ferrari they do a great job of blocking out half of the tach with the steering wheel. GT5 did this too. WTF? How am I supposed to see where redline is if you block it out?
Looking forward to the full release.

I'm not sure you'll have to. People liked running NASCAR-painted cars at the speedway online (I sold quite a few NASCAR-themed cars on the auction house). It may be just there for people to run online.
If there is a stock car event in the game, the way the season mode looks to be structured, you could run through a complete career without running every event in the game, so you may not even have to participate.

How much did you sell those for, Jay? Was it real money or Microsoft money?

It was in-game money. I sold my license plates for anywhere from 50,000-150,000 credits depending on the package. I don't remember how much the NASCAR repros went for, but probably around 250,000.
It didn't take long for me to amass tons of in-game cash...I think I'm sitting on 40 million credits right now, and would have more if not for an online update that was designed to remove a flaw that allowed people to cheat and build up insane amounts of money quickly. When that loophole was closed, they also reset anyone who had over a certain amount of money down to something like 50 million. But there's nothing to spend the money on in the game except the cars and upgrades, so that's more than enough for anyone.
Re: looks like i'll be playing ***** * MASS: WE PRAY
Huge pain in the ass to do though. I'm really looking forward to the new game storefront, where you can just sell the vinyls directly to the auction house. When I sat down to play online, this was what I had to do each time.
1. Go to the auction house and find the completed auctions
2. Go to a sold car, select it and take the money.
3. Wait for the list to refresh, find another sold car, select it and take the money.
4. Repeat step 3 until you've retrieved all of the money for the cars you sold. I'd sell 20 or more, so this took some time.
5. Go back into the game and buy 20 more cars to import the vinyls onto. Of course, you have to buy each car one at a time.
6. Go into the livery editor and import the vinyls...again, one car at a time.
7. Go back into the auction house, and put each car up for sale. Again, one at a time.
8. Realize you've spent over an hour dicking around with the fucking auction house and now have no interest in playing the game.
I seriously had a mini-breakdown, and ended up completely abandoning the online aspect...no auctions, no racing online, no more visits to the forums...I was done. Except when they did the tournament where you could win a real-life Nissan Sentra.
But now that the storefront in Forza 3 lets you just upload a vinyl grouping, and you can upload and sell as many as you want, it's going to be way fucking easier. I'll be getting back into it, I'm sure.

They don't shift gears? I didn't notice but that is disappointing. That's one thing Shift did, in addition to having a great dash view. But then it only had a handful of cars, so....

Exactly. I painted the hell out of cars in Forza 1 before there was ever an auction house. Yeah, there were some things I painted in Forza 2 I probably wouldn't have normally bothered with for my own purposes, but I saw some opportunities to show off-er-challenge myself.

Hrm, there was never music in FM2 while racing, why is it in FM3? Not that I mind, sometimes I like to jam while driving, but most times I turn it off so I can concentrate on not hitting walls and other cars.
Speaking of hitting cars, why is the damage to the paint the same as in FM2? I thought they would have updated it to make it more realistic. I barely nudged the 300C with my Evo and the whole back end looked like it got tiger raked.

i LOVE that rewind feature
ill have to wait to play the full game to be sure, but i cant see how GT5 is going to be much better than this. the only way it can be is real F1 cars instead of those shitty copies, and the inclusions of Spa and a few of the other classics

I don't see me using that rewind feature much in races, unless some assfuck knocks me out in the first corner (or last) of a really LOOOONGG race to save me from restarting.

Re: looks like i'll be playing ***** * MASS: WE PRAY
Yes. Of course. Just curious why it's in there at all. If you're going to put music in a racing game, make it a real radio like they had waaaaaayyy back in OUTRUN ferchrissakes, and make it tunable.
Some racing games get close, but no one does it quite right.
It'd be nice to create a playlist of songs, either in game or from your xbox, and make them playable n the car while driving. You could skip, shuffle, whatever to your playlist.
Fucking awesome.

You can set up a playlist in any game on the XBox and set it to shuffle, and it'll override the in-game music. Hit the guide button and access the music player from there to set everything up. Actually skipping tracks while playing the game is dependent on the game, though.

Yeah I used to have my PC hooked up to my 360 and could send mp3s to it like that. It was pretty sweet. But ever since I reinstalled windows I can't get it to work again.

Neither was I. Just racing. With no assists.
Although I'm not using the clutch because I'm using a controller.
I tried it but downshifting while braking is impossible.

The review embargo just lifted, and a couple of goons on Something Awful have advance copies. Some neat things have been revealed such as:
Every car is available from the start of the game. No more unlocking bullshit, although you will get a free car each time you level up. No region crap either.
At the beginning, you can pick one of these cars to start out:
2009 Chevrolet Aveo5 LT
2009 Scion xD
2008 Toyota Yaris S
2009 Forda Fiesta Zetec S
2009 Honda Fit Sport
2009 Nissan Versa SL
2009 Citroen C4 VTS
Here's pics of all the track layouts: http://www.xboxlive.fr/news_affiche_10500.html
And here's pics of all the cars (a 6-part list, links to the rest are at the bottom of the page; partie 2, partie 3, etc): http://www.xboxlive.fr/news_affiche_10494.html

i noticed there is no GTR though, how gay.
im sure it will be released in DLC but still, that should have been one of the first cars they put in it.
OMFG, they put the shitty little 100hp versa in it but not the GT-R? what the fuck is wrong with them? and they have race versions of the gt-r, but no street versions. something fishy here..

I like that the MR2 is a targa and the Tom's version would look good in a solid colour.
Not sold on that track selection though - especially 50 different ovals.

I like the look of the tarmac rally and Japanese road stages though. Stages instead of laps are a good way to mix up the action in this type of game.
Agree with Honor that the car selection is a bit strange - they have the Altezza RS200 but no the IS-F. And where's Suzuki? I'd rather have a Swift than any of the cars Jay listed.

I found out that indicates it's a car that the customer hasn't purchased (with real money) or downloaded. For instance, cars on Disc 2 that have not yet been installed to the hard drive will have the lock over them until they've been installed. There are also a few cars that are free with the Collector's Edition that are actually on all of the discs, but if you didn't buy the CE, it'll be locked unless you go to the Marketplace and buy them. Something like that.

There's a Turn 10 employee (or rather I should say, ex-employee) who leaked a whole bunch of information about the game over the net, and was summarily fired. Dan Greenawalt, who is the lead director on F3, said in an interview that a lot of the information the guy leaked was wrong. However, you'll see in this mirror of the guy's original post, that he was pretty much spot on about everything. The guy said this about the GT-R:
No R35 GTR, because they are a bunch of twatwaffles. Apparently the GTR team is independent from the rest of Nissan on many levels, one of them being licensing. The only way they would allow us to use the R35 was if it had no damage, no rollover, no custom wheels, no custom parts that improved performance, no painting, and no livery. So we said no thanks.
Which doesn't make much sense because apparently it's a damageable car in NFS:Shift, and it's going to be in GT5 (though there is the remote possibility it will be excluded from damage modeling). But again, 95% of what he said in that post was right, so who knows....
Another wrinkle to consider: the GT-R's electronic gauge cluster was designed by Polyphony (GT5). So there could be reasons they were more strict about licensing it to MS than EA, due to NFS:Shift being a 3rd-party title that's less of a sim-racer.
