Automotive Paint Woes
Not so much the body, but the wheels on my Durango.
Over the last 3 years of owning it, brake dust has etched itself into the paint in certain spots. Over the winter though, I had never gotten time to wash the truck, so the front wheels were rather dirty. When I washed it yesterday, the entire wheel was fucked with pretty much 80% of it having the dust etched in it. So with my intelligent thinking, I took a wet scotch-brite pad and started scrubbing the first wheel, then all of a sudden an image popped in my head of the painters at the collision repair shop using scotch-brite pads to scuff the paint on aftermarket fenders before paint........FUCK , well might as well do the other one. So now my front wheels are a dull silver. I did wax them, but that didn't help anything, so now I'm either going to get some rubbing compound or just repaint the wheels, which actually may be a good deal because the Jeep's wheels need a repaint.
So the moral of the story is, Keep your painted wheels as clean as possible.

or get some wheel spray paint..and respray them. If you mask well and clean well they'll come out better than stock.
Re: Automotive Paint Woes
I thought I said I was going to repaint the wheels?

Re: Automotive Paint Woes
I thought you were insinuating you wanted to take it somewhere to get the wheels painted..
Re: Automotive Paint Woes

But for sure if I get the Durango from the wife when she gets a new vehicle, I'm getting the whole thing resprayed because it was in an accident before we got it and the whole drivers side was resprayed with a shitty spray job.

Re: Automotive Paint Woes
When I had my Firenza, I once took a non-abrasive pad to scrub the bugs and tar off the lower part of the fenders, bumpers and doors, and after I was done I went back inside to put it up. Set it down in the cabinet next to another non-abrasive pad. And I was like...wait, I didn't know I had two non-abrasive pads...I had a non-abrasive one, and an abrasive one...so what happened to the abrasive...oooooh.

The fact that you had a firenza is a big FML.

If the previous owner hadn't jammed a few gallons of gelatinous goo into the cooling system, it would've actually been a pretty nice car.
Re: Automotive Paint Woes
My bronze wheels look just as good with brake dust. And my old gold wheels probably looked a little better with the colour dulled by dust. Of course the actual car looks like shit when its dirty (wich is most of the time).
Swerve- My hope has been emancipated, and I'm reconstructing my anguish.
