Give me Peter Egan, Jay Leno, and that guy from "My Classic Car", and I'm set.

I'm sure it will be watchable. A lot of the BBC version's greatness comes down to the cinematography and budget, which the US will have no problem matching.
They've names the Oz version's hosts and all three appear to lack any personality or appeal. And I still maintain the budget will restrict the show to street light races using a Hyundai Accent.

Re: Top Gear USA hosts announced
so the new show was pretty typical. the police car bit was funny, the record attempt was not. still the best car show out there but there looks to be plenty to come from the series....
including clarkson flying a spitfire by the season preview that was at the beginning.

with the American version of the show speeding into production, NBC is indicating that the show will be available for your viewing pleasure on its website. According to NBC, the episodes ā which will be aired weekly in primetime starting sometime this year ā will also be available for viewing online each week, along with a special aftermarket segment that's sure to blend the excitement of the annual SEMA show with Top Gear's own unique flavor

Seeing as how Top Gear has been a bit average compared to previous seasons, I'm a bit more interested to see what the US show has cooked up...

That would be great if he showed up from time to time.
"Now Adam, I think a lot of this childish behavior you're exhibiting can be traced back to problems with your parents. You're just acting out because your dad wasn't around much and your mother was too strict. Now let's go flog the shit out of this Saleen S7."

the newest one was still pretty allright :)
Re: Top Gear USA hosts announced
Adam carolla is not made for scripted programming. He was genius on loveline, but when kept to a real format he isn't nearly as funny as he actually is.

Re: Top Gear USA hosts announced
Non-car people are not going to watch that show.
When I was on my honeymoon, I met a group of British folk and into our conversation I asked if any of them watched Top Gear and just about everyone said yes. One of the couples said they weren't even into cars but they loved watching the show. I don't even see that happening here.
There also is so much liability crap with "if somebody sees that on TV they may try that themselves" in America today, so they either have to slather the show with disclaimers or they won't do half the shit they do on Top Gear.
I wish Jay Leno would be on the show, because he is a real car guy and he gives really good descriptions on what he's driving. As far as I know Adam Carolla is just a Nissan/Datsun guy, I don't know what else he owns.

Re: Top Gear USA hosts announced
Maybe Top Gear USA won't suck as much as we expect....
...I have to admit I was skeptical they could pull it off, but after attending the taping of the Top Gear pilot I have to say Iām a believer. First, the set was perfect, walking into the Top Gear hanger created a wave of familiarity, but most importantly was the welcome atmosphere from the producers and talent....
Re: Top Gear USA hosts announced
i'm still skeptical.
if top gear had ANY brains, they'd have hired a car enthusiast (which corolla may be), a fat, asian guy, and a woman.

and, frankly, they should have danica as the woman. a good-looking chick that could out drive the host.

Isn't that an old RAF base turned museum?
