Also, I like Mark Twain's comment on the same page.
I won't complain too loudly about being in the company of Jefferson, Twain and Dershowitz.

I may be wrong about Jefferson, but you're taking a Twain quip far too literally. Twain may have said that laughingly (if he said it at all; many Twain quips are mis-attributed, like Yogi Berra's or Churchill's), but he was a highly articulate wordsmith, and was actually an immaculate speller. In this quip, he was referring to being able to write in an expressive vernacular with the goal of adding richness to the prose. And beyond spelling, Twain always held grammar in high esteem. He often made corrections in the margins of his personal library, lamenting the authors' straying from "good English."
And I don't mean to be cruel, but one doesn't enter into the company of any of those men by merit of a poor grasp of spelling or grammar. More like the company of this one:
Also: Mark Twain's disdain for spelling may have been due to the chaotic nature of the rules of spelling in English--but he still respected these rules. He was actually an advocate of changing the rules themselves. This is not the act of a man who does not care about the rules of spelling. Why change the rules if you have no regard for them whatsoever?

Doug Flutie tried to make up for that when he started having kids. Unfortunately, autism won out over downs.

That's the impression I got.
I decided to read this new book I got instead. "Team of Rivals" - it's about Lincoln's presidency.
Reading about successful people is always so depressing.
I bought that book because it sounded very interesting when Jon Stewart had the author on to discuss it.
And it is interesting...but I haven't gotten more than 70 pages through it yet. Because I have ADD and an Xbox.

I wasn't the one who said that about Twain, you can attribute that mis-attribution (if it is one) to Derschowtiz who I was simply repeating
I'm not an idiot. I know how to write. You don't receive two degrees and pass the bar of a legal jurisdiction by being incapable of spelling or writing grammatically correct sentences. I type quickly and off handedly on here, mistakes happen. However, as far as I was concerned no one was seriously suggesting that I had a poor grasp of grammar or spelling. If you honestly think that, then you're taking this joke way too far.

Les, I am Canadian and I was COMPLETELY oblivious to the fact that the greycup was yesterday. In fact the only reason I knew it was going on is because I just happened to call my Nanny to see how she was doing and the dialogue went something like this during our conversation:
Nanny: So, are you watching the grey cup this afternoon?
Me: The what?
Nanny: The Grey Cup.
Me: The what? Oh, The Grey Cup. Is that on this weekend? Who is playing?
Nanny: Montreal and Calgary
Me: Where is is it:
Nanny: Montreal
Me: huh, I had no idea it was even on this weekend.

Re: Apparently there was some sort of football game in Canada last night
there have been plenty of games like the ones u described played in the nfl playoffs/superbowls except nothing pertaining to fog comes to memoryLes_Vipers_rule wrote:00ranger wrote:does everything have to be an argument? they are essentially the same thing for diffirent countries
It's not an argument, it's a clarification. One based on facts and BTW they are not basically the same thing. The CFL needs not answer to the NFL nor compare itself to it and of course vice versa. They are two different versions of a game we call football. I have never understood why some feel the need to either directly or indirectly attack or insult one or the other leagues. But usually it's more often idiots especially some more ignorant Canadian punk asses who want to beat on the CFL but it has worked both ways over the years.
The CFL based on facts is the older game, its championship game is older and often more colourful. For instance have and will play ours in the wet, cold and even the snow some years. One year due to immense fog in Toronto, I believe it was 1961 the game had to be suspended and finished the next day as nobody could see more than 10-15 feet. We have played the Grey Cup championship game and other playoff games in temps below -30 C. or with so much snow falling it was incredible they were able to finish the game. The history of the CFL and the Grey Cup is long and storied and it deserves RESPECT! That is not an argument and I'm not trying to be argumentative here but only trying to state some facts. In fact the NFL today would not have likely have things like the forward pass or the punt if it were not for US college teams playing against Canadian college teams some 80+ years ago and seeing and even playing with our early rules of our game.

Nanny is just something that a 4 year old would call their grandmother, just as mummy isn't something you call you mum as you grow up. That's all I was getting at.

also, it's funny to put oneself in the company of great, highly accomplished men by merit of one's lack of a firm grasp of writing, alleged or not AND it gave me the added bonus of being able to make fun of george bush.
