Re: armageddon is here
Think of it this way. When we are all old Grandparents etc. we will be able to talk of this era as our grand parents did during the depression. Youth will ask "What the fuck was wrong with your society back then?" We will say it was the end game of an era where we allowed greed and corruption to rule.
Greed is insidious to the human will in a monetary system that we have here. The only things that kept/keeps greed under control are two things.
1: Our conscience, most are brought up with a conscience to establish a line we are not likely to cross on our own free will. Corrupt that conscience you bend or erase that line.
2: Regulation and penalties under the law. These two things use the power of the govt. to help control greed and selfishness.
Sadly under this monetary/banking system we have abandoned these ideals and it has all especially accelerated from Ronald Reagan's Presidency onwards.
Sadly all too many of us and even socalled experts can't seem to understand this. They all still want to put Band-Aids on a failed system.
Now the roosters are coming home.

these people have no idea the calamity they're conjuring.
this economy is going to grind to a halt, which means the birthrate is going to drop, which means job losses are going to increase exponentially.
now, when susan burger king clerk gets laid off and wonders why, we can tell her that there are no fucking customers, because they're all in their foreclosed house eating canned soup every night.

The Republicans are Republicans first and Americans second this is why they continue with the lies and BULLSHIT!. They are the TRUE ENEMIES OF THE STATE!
Here is one thing to ponder.
Bush and his family in the last year purchased over 180,000 acres of land in Paraguay. Paraguay has no extradition agreement with the USA.

Agreed. This should have gone quickly through Congress with a substantial victory. And then through the Senate. This is the fault of every single person who voted no. Period. Also, it's good to see how effective McCain is at going to Washington and working on solving the crisis.

this is what happens when politicians think they know more than the ex CEO of Goldmans. bitching about costing the taxpayer $700 billion.....it'll take a year to recover the $1.2 TRILLION they lost today. i was looking at the comparisons on bloomberg earlier and the average loss since the start of the year on all the major indexes was about 30%...with between 5 and 10% of that occuring today.

these fucking politicians are goddamn morons.
there needs to be some fucking standards to run for elected office. i mean what the fuck? you need a license to fucking fish or drive, but you need NOTHING to be elected as a fucking congressman or senator. it should be required that these idiots have a fucking economics degree AND a law degree, in order to run for office. and there needs to be a fucking age limit. nobody older than 55.
look at fucking morons like jim bunning. that piece of shit just blew a fucking chlamydia infested load into his constituents, because we're 'on the slippery slope to socialism'. fucking idiot doesn't even know what socialism is.
there are a bunch of others besides jim. i only use him as an example, because his stupid face is on tv all the time.

this is fucking great. the republican minority leader is claiming that they soured on the bill, because pelosi gave a partisan speech against the bush administration on the floor, just before the vote.
what a bunch of fucking idiots. pelosi is an idiot for making that asinine speech, and the republicans are fucking idiots for voting the bill down 'because their feelings are hurt.'
unfuckingbelievable.

basically stocks would have recovered alot because investors would feel alot more secure that nomore large banks would go under dragging down the rest of the stock market with them. the markets are crying out for some stability right now and a $700 billion guarantee would do that.....at least for a few weeks

Well, you can blame the ones who voted against it. And it really doesn't reflect well on the party that they have a majority in Congress and they could have passed this bill, but didn't. But this isn't Canada. Party discipline doesn't exist, and generally that's a good thing.

she didn't break the law or anything, but what she did was extremely petty, given the situation. this is like the ER doctor chewing out the drunk driving hospital administrator that caused the accident that led to the half-dead patient being in the emergency room. there's a time and a place. it was cunty. although adults voting down the american people, because their feelings were hurt is equally, if not more, cunty.

right now the cost of borrowing between banks is prohibitively high. since they borrow from each other daily, to fund asshole small business owners, that's a problem. so now they're depleting their own capital reserves, which can't go on forever, obviously. once they run out of enough capital, they'll stop loaning money to businesses that need the cash for immediate things like payroll. if that stops, the layoffs start real fast.
then you have people like farmers that borrow constantly to fund daily operations. they'll start selling assets to raise cash, but that will run out, too. granted, it's slow.
so, anyway, all these shitty banks have a bunch of unsellable mortgage-based assets that they paid a fortune for. the bill was to allow the gov't to buy the mortgage stuff that nobody else will, which would give the banks the cash they need.
there's supposed to be a vote on an altered plan on thursday. if that doesn't pass, you'd better get some cash for the mattress.

Even if it passed wouldn't that simply devalue the fuck out of the dollar? How is injecting the economy with more debt a viable solution?

It isn't it only delays the inevitable. Any bailout package and one is coming soon trust me will not end this. The problem is systemic and we will see its ugly head again in mere months.

Re: armageddon is here
the value of the dollar is indirectly tied to the bail out, not a key part of the reason for its existence. basically put banks are afraid to lend to small businesses, and each other, effectively freezing the loan market. the euro dollar debt markets almost ground to a halt despite being the most liquid in the world. what that means is that in order to borrow money banks and business are having to pay astronomical sums to get finance, because noone trusts anyone to pay them back. one icelandic bank's borrowing cost increased 400% since january and that sort of figure is not uncommon. the main interest rate index, the LIBOR, jumped the highest its ever jumped. the bail out would have stabilised things and given a guarantee to lenders that their money/assets are safe
the effect this has on the dollar is pretty simple. right now US banks are collapsing left right and centre. would you rather invest in a currency whose economy is failing rapidly, or in the euro where you have countries like france, spain and germany who have strong, non finance based economies? you'd take the euro, everytime. so, by giving reassurance that the US banks wont collapse you convince investors that the dollar is worth buying against the euro. other currencies are irrelevant because outside of the dollar, euro and pound sterling none of the others really influence things.

Um no... I know exactly what Im saying and it's based on information one can readily get about how the crux of our problem lies within fractional reserve banking practices and with how the idea of creating money out of debt and the insult and SIN of adding usury to it is in the end one that cannot work. But as I said you can go ask 100 people about the banking/lending system they will not know how it works or will quote its workings inaccurately.
The US Fed Reserve is allowed a 9:1 ratio of dollars created (from thin air) to lend to dollars one must hold in reserve. Other forms of lending go as high as 30:1.
So you can be jerk and personally attack me or you can get educated.
