Thoughts on that? Not sure if I can get a civic yet, but one pre-req of getting a car is that it can carry a kayak.

I'm still tossing ideas around. I'll probably get nothing. But I like the 2008 Civic coupe. :aris:

you'd have to buy a rack, but other than that, it should be no problem.

Cool. I want to go cheap if I buy a new car. Keep other options open, and shit.

I love options, and hopes and dreams. It's always so delightfully depressing when they come crashing down.

It really is phenomenal how life just picks off dreams and hopes one by one until you're left with nothing but a sad attempt to salvage even the most minimal dignity.

Well I don't know how expensive Veedubs are up in Canadia, but new Jettas start at $16K and have a kayak rack as an option down here.

I know people usually frown on VW reliability, but people I know with newer Rabbits and Jettas have no complaints.

Holy Shit nevermind, Jettas are not cheap in Canada. They roughly start at $21k CAD ($20,500 USD) and with one major option plus anything you'd really want, you'd have a $28k+ Jetta.

I don't know what he would have to pay in import taxes for Canada. Or if they would allow him to purchase a brand new vehicle from technically another country.

Its rediculous what they have standard on a base Jetta in the US and the "City" Jetta in Canada. Canada definitely loses out.

That would just add a whole level of complexity I don't want to deal with and time I don't have. Especially when a Subaru Impreza would provide the same stuff for a little more money

I built an S model Jetta on the US site and it comes with a lot of standard premium options for starting at $16k. It also comes standard with the 170 hp 2.5L 5-cylinder. I kept it rather bare bones otherwise except for some nicer 16" wheels and with the Kayak rack it came out to almost $18k.

The "City" model Jetta I put a convenience package (power windows, door locks etc.) an automatic, and air conditioning, it still came out to $21K and didn't have half of the standard features the US model did. Oh and it only comes with a 2.0L 115 hp 4-banger.

Wally, do yourself a favor and move down here.
