Senna.... 20 years ago today.
OMG! It's been 20 years, I remember the day and the San Marino GP like it was yesterday. A time when I'd still waked up at 4:00 am or so PST to watch F1 races live from Europe. It was an event like many other where one remembers where they were and what they were doing when a tragedy happens.
That said, lets also pay our due respects to the late Rolland Ratzenberger who died in qualifying and to Rubens Barrichello who almost died in practice on that most fateful of weekends.
Here is a nice McLaren video on Senna, about his magical qualifying lap of Monaco in 1988.

To me, he'll always be the Greatest Driver to Ever Turn a Wheel. He's like Michael Jordan, or Babe Ruth; no matter who comes along later in history and breaks his records or beats his lap times or wins more championships, he'll always be that sport's superlative.

Back when the cars had tons of power, no electronics, and three pedals.

Well they would have had a fair few more electronics if it wasn't for the 92 Williams...
I was talking to an F1 nut at work about watching that GP and it seems like my memory of the broadcast managed to block out everything between Senna spearing off the track and the weird outside shot that the cameras stayed on for ages while the commentary continued (British feed). Turns out they showed all the bits that were in the Senna documentary.

And I think the 94 cars were mainly semi autos.
