You shouldn't have said that...
Oh yeah, Honor's fucked now.

Man this thing hauls ass now. I'm still only had a stage 1 tune but I swear I can get from like 50-80 in like 2 seconds. I can't wait to add more stuff.

Awe, how cute. You're still in the honeymoon phase. Give it a month, it'll fell slow again.
I almost bit the bullet a few years ago to get 350 whp. All I'd need is an Evo IX turbo, injectors, and a retune. Decided against it, though.

Yeah. Once it feels slow again add more gofast stuff. Rinse and repeat.

Until you're 20g's in the hole with a built motor that burns oil and no one knows why and you don't know who to trust or turn to to make it right like my buddy and his '05 STi.
At least his CAR is paid off now.

At least his CAR is paid off now.
And then 5 years from now he's trying to sell it on Craigslist for $40,000 saying, "I've invested $20,000 into this car, so IT'S A STEAL here's all the upgrades (giant list with Borlas here and K&N's there follows)" and everyone's wondering, "Why did he spend all that money on upgrading that car when he could have just put that money into helping pay for an M3 or something?"
Re: The "Honor Man vs Mother Nature" Poll
He claims he will put it back to stock if he ever sells it, he has all his original parts. Only problem with the oil issue is it may be in the block, which is the only stock part of the engine, except its been bored over and the crank's been knife edged and balanced.
If I were him I'd cut my losses and just dump it, sell off all the parts, and use the cash to buy a Typhoon (another turbo AWD car he lusts for) and pay off his credit cards.

Re: The "Honor Man vs Mother Nature" Poll
How much does it usually cost for a dyno run? Cobb says the wrx stock is 223 at the wheels and assuming a 20% drivetrain loss would put the wrx at around 280hp crank stock. I've heard they're underrated and this would explain how they can keep up with the STi. Cobb also says that stage 1 increases hp by 16% and tq by 21%. So if the stock crank is 265 as subaru says than I should have around 307hp now. If its really 280 stock than I should have around 324. It feels a little quicker to me than it did, particularly at higher speeds, but not as much as I would expect for 324hp. It might just be in my head though. It does have noticeably more low end torque then it did, but just wondering if cobb is being totally honest about the gains.

Re: The "Honor Man vs Mother Nature" Poll
I don't know, call around. I would guess if you just want three pulls maybe $100-150. Get it done on a good dyno, like a Mustang. If all you care about is getting the biggest number for your epenis, go Dynojet. The Mustang will give you more accurate, real world numbers. And don't get too wrapped around peak numbers; I'll take the area under the curve over a huge peak any day. All I know is I never take the word of a manufacturer's numbers that are trying to sell you something.
FWIW - Bushcur said a stock Evo 8 would put out ~ 210 whp on their Mustang dyno, and they were rated 276 at the flywheel.

Ill probably wait for at least a n intake and downpipe before I get a few runs. I think ill shoot for 300whp and leave it at that though. It is my dd after all.

Wait for a car show or something where they have a dyno on site or nearby, they usually run specials. Last Subaru show I was at it was $50 for three pulls.

Beats standing/sitting around in the hot July sun at a car show aaaaalllll day long. Breaks up the monotony.

Re: The "Honor Man vs Mother Nature" Poll
I very narrowly avoided losing my license last weekend. After a huge night saturday night (parts of which are mentioned in my thread, which sensibly nobody much seems to read because the posts are all rally long and boring) I eventually woke up around 5pm at my mates place and had to head home shortly after. My dad lives about 4km out of town and there are road works going on the whole way between the town and his place.Turbojett wrote:pretty easygoing cops it sounds like. the cops around here go crazy if you back out of your driveway too fast for their liking.Talon wrote:We got pounded with snow Friday night/Saturday morning. I was driving my dad around on Saturday (he just had shoulder surgery) in the Evo. Did a nice little ass-kick-out through a 90* turn... there were like five cars coming the other way but they were a good 150 yards away. Well, second one in line was a cop. Of, fucking, course it was. He flashed his high-beams at me (not the reds/blues) and threw up his hands as I drove by, but he never turned around.
My dad and I were lulz.
Lets start with the fact that even though I had been sleeping until 5pm, I was most definitely over the .05 limit herw. There has never been nothing surer, as there was some super drinking going on that night. I was just about out of town when I saw cars backed up right around the area where the road works begin. Not thinking that it was a sunday (easter sunday and the exact sort of situation the cops will be all over) I kept going a little further thinking it was road works related.. Then I saw some police lights from a car parked on the other side of the road. Even then I thought for a few seconds if the car is parked on the other side it might be an accident. A few seconds later though I realised that it had to be that the whole road both ways was shut down for 'random' breath testing.
Even though from the ads they show, and I think movies i've seen, if you do a sudden u-turn approaching such a situation you're likely to have a stand by car come chase you down, that was my only choice. I did a u-turn about 150 meters up from where they must have been set up (there was a slight corner between them and where I turned) and without speeding made a quick getaway down a street just up the road which would eventually lead me on about a 15km detour through mostly the 'back streets' (country back streets this is after moving) and get me to my dad's.
The first minute or two pretty much just involved me watching the mirror, however once I got to a certain point I knew it would be very unlikely that they could have followed me.

Very lucky. My work is on Studley Park Rd and just last week I saw someone in the carpark about to be breathtested after attempting the U-turn escape. I think I posted a few years ago about my reverse into the driveway and escape through the security gate as the police car arrived.
Swerve- My hope has been emancipated, and I'm reconstructing my anguish.

.05 limit? Jesus fuck, any seasoned drinker would be completely functional at that point. The limit in the states is .08 and even that is too low.

Yeah, but the standard isn't for a seasoned drinker. It's for an average person. I'm OK with 0.05, even though I get the arguments that it's too low. 0.08 makes sense though, to me. I suspect the average driver is impaired at 0.08.

I think it's bullshit but I need to mess around with a breathalyzer before I'm truly convinced.

I did a test once - blew 0.07, so just under the limit in Alberta, at the time (it's 0.05 now). I probably could have driven - I wasn't blind drunk - but it wouldn't have been worth it. Definitely felt slower reactions, and some level of impairement. I've got a self imposed one drink + 1 hour + food limit now.

That's the advantage of living fairly centrally, even in Edmonton. Plenty of good bars with great beer within easy walking distance.
