If you live in Orange County (where Orlando is) it could be sexually transmitted diseases, which have jumped far above the state average. In Seminole County, it could be underage drinking among middle- and high-school students.

In Lake, it may be teen pregnancy or life-threatening car crashes. In Osceola, the danger zone may be obesity and diabetes. In Volusia, it could be car accidents and alcohol abuse.

In a first-of-its-kind report, the Florida Department of Health has combined the latest data from different state agencies -- including motor-vehicle accident statistics, school safety data and health information -- to present a picture of the dangers facing children and teens throughout the state.

What's unique about the report, the School-Aged Child and Adolescent Profile, says Betty Serow of the Florida Department of Health, is that it gives parents and county officials a chance to see problem areas that their counties face -- and how they stack up against other counties.

"Our interest is not in ranking the counties, saying you're a winner or a loser," Serow said. "It's where can the counties get the most bang for their buck."

At the East Central Florida Health Council, which covers Brevard, Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties, executive director Karen van Caulil said county officials and nonprofits should focus on drug use and substance abuse among middle- and high-school students, plus sexually transmitted diseases.

"We're also seeing really high STD rates," particularly in Orange County, van Caulil said. And worrisome STD rates could spell trouble in other areas, she said, including teen pregnancies and the spread of HIV/AIDS.

I live in the other Orange County. STD's are nothing new here. Maybe we should just change the names of both to "Whoreange County"

Wonder what north Florida is. I know Jacksonville has the highest murder rate so far this year but i doubt that compares to the car wrecks and such.
