I kind of agree with Dunnas on this one. Everyone is talking about the country finally woke up and saw the light! and Obama won by a landslide! and Our country has spoken! But the popular vote was pretty close for most of the night.
There's still a lot of red on the maps, especially if you look at the county map on nytimes.com. Obama just happened to get the vote in a majority of the heavy-hitting state for the electoral vote.
Yes, Obama won and I'm happy about it but I won't go around giving credit to the country as a whole.

Per the Electoral College, which is what actually puts the man into office, it was a landslide.

Even in the popular vote. He won by 7 million votes. 6% of the American population. People were oh so quick to lump all Americans together when Bush won - with narrower margins than that. This is a resounding victory, and a landslide by any measure. Especially when you consider that McCain was not a bad candidate. If Obama had won this against the current president Bush, then, maybe I'd agree that it should have been by a greater number. Dunnas is just being a contrarian, like always.

It's true, our country does have vast areas of idiocy. I am just glad that for the most part their votes don't count.

Nation Finally Shitty Enough To Make Social Progress
Carrying a majority of the popular vote, Obama did especially well among women and young voters, who polls showed were particularly sensitive to the current climate of everything being fucked.

Re: THE OFFICIAL US ELECTION DAY THREAD
So apparently, my county's new Sheriff is black. And the woman I sit with is going on about how this is a good thing because (and she's not trying to be racist, of course!) he knows how to best deal with "his people" since they're the ones with all the guns and they're the ones causing all the trouble in Orlando.

Most of those people haven't even left "the holler" in the last 50 years. I doubt they'll make it to Canada or Israel or wherever they might try to go.

Re: THE OFFICIAL US ELECTION DAY THREAD
Back in August, Something Awful did a couple of "toxx" threads...one for Obama and one for McCain. Basically a chance for people to put up or shut up for their candidates by gambling their $10 accounts. Post in the Obama toxx thread, and if Obama lost, your account was Permabanned. Same for the McCain thread.
So many accounts gone Reading through it, half of them were people who didn't support McCain but just posted for the lulz

I remember in high school by the vending machines there were always black dudes asking for change. Now I know they were a grassroots campaign.

oh man fox news has joe the plumber back on. calling his run-in with obama an 'unscripted moment'.
now they're asking him what he thinks about joe lieberman being potentially stripped of his senate committee chairmanship and war, etc.
now joe is trying to articulate his 'principles' and is failing miserably.
'obama is going to change this country. don't you guys think there's something wrong with that?' -joe the plumber
