Election Night 2012
Wooo 'murica!
Polls just closed in the first round of states and Indiana, Kentucky, and Vermont are already called on MSNBC.
I will be drinking. I'm hoping this goes well.

Re: Election Night 2012
I don't get the whole Twitter thing.
Anyway, I am just ready for this shit to all be over with. I voted via absentee weeks ago...
PS - How are these states closed? Voting is open until 8:00, yea? I hover over Indiana and it says 9% in with a total of less than 250,000 votes. Def not done yet... just sayin'. :jay:

Re: Election Night 2012
Voting in IN closed at 7:00. If Indianapolis, Gary, and the Louisville suburbs show a relatively low amount of Obama votes, it's pretty much assured to go red. Obama only barely carried that state last year, and it's been projected to go red pretty much the whole election.
Now the senate race in Indiana is another matter...

Re: Election Night 2012
Both parties know already how 41 of the 50 states will go (weeks or months ago). They spent like 90% of their budgets in the 9 swing states. Feeling is Obama has to momentum on most of them. But like all Presidential elections in recent years of that great democracy of the USA, shenanigans and IMO illegal acts at polling stations and such have been going on. What world class leader in democracy the Good Ole USA has become.

I just spent the last half-hour talking to my dad, and I was drunk off my ass the whole time. I'm pretty sure he wanted to get off the phone long ago.

Lol, we were pretty active on here 4 years ago during the election. Too bad we don't have that enthusiasm this year.

Re: Election Night 2012
They've both spent so much time in Ohio I would be surprised if they didn't have homes here. Romney was here again today.
Ah well, makes me feel like my vote is worth more than yours.

Re: Election Night 2012
When I was in line to vote, the guy behind me was talking about how much worse it must be in Florida and Ohio, and I said, "Well, I imagine they're just glad to get it all over with."
Re: Election Night 2012
On the somethingawful.com forums, some people have bet their accounts on who's going to win (it costs $10 to have an account there). There's something like 1,000 people betting their accounts for Obama versus about 300 for Romney.

Because there is NO FIXING the global economic (let alone the USA's) and more so monetary problems. This ponsi scheme of global monetary idealism is all dressed by just window dressing in the front of a phony global facade pretending to be free markets, capitalism and better social, democratic justice.
The gangster bankers, stock market manipulators and insider traders etc, highest corporate elites and all of these folks cronies from their right hand men to the lil shits beneath them who think they are smarter than the avg Joe and thus more special have all put us on a slippery slop to problems one could not have begin to imagine not 25-30 years ago. The politicians regardless of whether they are big shots like a US President or a piss ant like the Prime Minister of Greece and all in between all feed from these greed hand, pond scum, arrogant and ignorant bastards. The day will likely come and maybe sooner than later where there may not be enough rope to deal with these thugs and assholes. But their limp, lifeless bodies may very well be seen swinging from lamp posts and large tree branches one day.

Bruce Cockburn: Call It Democracy, lyrics.
Padded with power here they come International loan sharks backed by the guns Of market hungry military profiteers Whose word is a swamp and whose brow is smeared With the blood of the poor
Who rob life of its quality Who render rage a necessity By turning countries into labour camps Modern slavers in drag as champions of freedom
Sinister cynical instrument Who makes the gun into a sacrament -- The only response to the deification Of tyranny by so-called "developed" nations' Idolatry of ideology
North South East West Kill the best and buy the rest It's just spend a buck to make a buck You don't really give a flying fuck About the people in misery
IMF dirty MF Takes away everything it can get Always making certain that there's one thing left Keep them on the hook with insupportable debt
See the paid-off local bottom feeders Passing themselves off as leaders Kiss the ladies shake hands with the fellows Open for business like a cheap bordello
And they call it democracy And they call it democracy And they call it democracy And they call it democracy
See the loaded eyes of the children too Trying to make the best of it the way kids do One day you're going to rise from your habitual feast To find yourself staring down the throat of the beast They call the revolution
IMF dirty MF Takes away everything it can get Always making certain that there's one thing left Keep them on the hook with insupportable debt

Re: Election Night 2012
CBS is reporting that polls are being kept open in VA and FL even though the polls are supposed to be closed. We may be here a while, but higher voting turnout generally favors the Democrats.

Re: Election Night 2012
So far all the dominoes have fallen as they should. The only "swing state" that has been decided is New Hampshire for Obama, but that state has leaned toward Obama anyway. Obama still appears to have the egde, but the final numbers remain to be seen.
Re: Election Night 2012
We need Ohio. Florida is a loss, I'm pretty sure. We need Cali too.

Re: Election Night 2012
If Obama wins Ohio, it's over. Obama can still win without it, but Romney's path to 270 is amazingly difficult without Ohio.

Re: Election Night 2012
So I passed out and woke up on the floor of my bathroom to find Obama had been re-elected. It is a good day.
Re: Election Night 2012
Florida's been really close all night (not that it matters now) but Miami-Dade will swing the state to Obama. This is pretty much what happened last election.
