RWD Sporty Commuter Fun Car Topic
Requirements.
RWD, fast enough to on the highway, fairly inexpensive, reliable enough to drive often. decentish fuel economy (at least 20)
I may be buying something come spring time. So far these are on my list.
Datsun 510
BMW 2002
BMW 3-series (e30)
Mazda Miata (1st gen)
Maybe something British. Spitfire, TR4, Jensen Healey, etc.
Thats about all i can think of that would be RWD and "Reliable".

a 240 would be a good option too. forget a miata unless you're like 5"10 or under.
i'd have to go with the e30 however. i'd like to get one of them too. probably a 325is

Rx-7s are good (1st Gen), the 12A is a rather reliable rotary. Make sure you find one that has been taken care of. With a 5-speed, they can get up to about 28 mpg.
I found this one, it's looks good.

There are a lot of 2nd gen Rx-7s out there and people want too much for them. You really have to find an unmolested version to get a descent car.

Re: RWD Sporty Commuter Fun Car Topic
Spitfires are fantastic fun but hopeless on the highway. 60 mph is about all that is really possible unless you have an overdrive gearbox which is rare and pricey. Mine was reliable for what that is worth.

I'm thinking Tercel or metro in my future since i can't find a Justy within 1500 miles of me

That is no GLH, although i think it might be the fancy Omni America package.
It appears to be a fine survivor though, not much rust from the pic.

Yep. 88 Omni America. It has some "paint falling off" issues on the roof, but I'm going to address that in the spring. I fly to Nashville to get it. Stick shift ones don't come up often.

How can flying anywhere make the purchase of an '88 Omni an economical proposition?Stan McKay wrote:Yep. 88 Omni America. It has some "paint falling off" issues on the roof, but I'm going to address that in the spring. I fly to Nashville to get it. Stick shift ones don't come up often.

What else do you use airline miles you rack up for work for?
I'm flying to California for 5 dollars in about a week.
I'm more curious as to how who ever you bought it from thought you were serious that you would be flying in to pick up their 1988 Dodge Omni America.

Also, E30 or Miata. Not even a question.
Between the two, probably the E30 since it'd be a bit more practical.
