In the market for a new vehicle
To replace the wife's mini with an SUV.
I have a couple on my mind:
Mazda CX-5 and Nissan X-terra Pro-4X. Not exactly similar vehicles I know. I am not exactly sure which route I want to go yet. The STi will still be my daily driver but this will be the new road trip / family vehicle etc.
CX 5 seems a little under powered (184 hp and 2000 lb towing capacity). X-terra is 261 hp with 5000 lb towing capacity.
Perhaps you guys could give me some other ideas.

Re: In the market for a new vehicle
Ford Escape
1.6 EcoBoost has 178hp, tows 2000lbs; 2.0 EcoBoost is 240 hp/3500lbs; base engine probably not worth your time.
best I've seen so far in that segment, apart from that X-terra. The Nissan's actually a truck though.

120hp/liter? How'd they pull that off? I guess it's a high revver like the S2000 huh

well, maybe but it has a turbocharger on it... Not unheard of, for instance the Cobalt SS Turbocharged had like 260 from a 2.0T.

CX5 is a good looking car. What about something a bit smaller - is the Subaru XV turbocharged yet?

I drove a Tiguan for a day. Seemed like a really good car. I think they're coming out with a diesel version soon, too. Which may be worth a look.

Re: In the market for a new vehicle
A mother taking her kid to school crushed my old MR2 off the lights one morning a couple of years ago. Considering I wasn't trying but still...

Re: In the market for a new vehicle
Modern V6's ain't nothing to fuck with. 273hp in our CX-9 feels like almost a lot.
Re: In the market for a new vehicle
The Tiguan she was driving was a diesel. Although I did race a pimp-looking cx7 driver once and he thought it was hilarious when I pulled away pretty easily.
Just to round it off, an XC60 left me for dead when I picked up the new MR2. I did my usual old-MR2 move of pulling away normally then gunning it if the other guy is. Unfortunately, I didn't realise the new car starts spooling at high 3s rather than low 2s and basically just crawled along with the pedal to the floor while the Volvo pulled an easy 10 car lengths...

Is she into S&M? If so I'd recommend a fleet of Lada Nivas. Maybe one per day of the week. They even come with the ability to use a crank handle to start.

Not sure if I want to go much smaller than a CX-5. I am looking for more room than what my STi offers.. Also, the XV Crossteck only comes in a 148hp standard engine. even the CX-5 with only 184hp seems to little. Then again. I drive a car with 300hp so everything except the audi SQ5 seems underpowered.

Ya. That one was added to my list a few days ago. Top Gear did a good little comparison (if you want to call it that)

Re: In the market for a new vehicle
you remember watching your dad blow up a kiddie pool when you were little? His face would turn purple and sweat would bead on his forehead, and his head looked like it was about to explode?
That's how you aspirate an EcoBoost engine.
