Vettal really proved why he is a douche bag. Malaysia GP.

Yep he only helped verify that point to me this past race weekend. Not only did this little shit disregard agreed to pre race orders and numerous radio transmissions sent to him during his little antic, he threatened by his own selfish actions to not only take out himself but his team mate Webber. But actually I was hoping he'd have done just that to make him look even more of an asshole.

Mercedes was almost as silly by not allowing the much faster Rosberg in this race to pass Hamilton who obviously had to nurse his car for what sounds like low fuel reasons. At least Hamilton on the podium stated that he felt that Nico should have been there in 3rd place and not him.

Yea, I watched that whole thing. What a dick move. It wasn't just race orderd, regarding the Red Bulls, but Webber was driving with the car toned down and trying to preserve tires... Vettle used that and took advantage of Webber. If I were Webber, I'd be super pissed.

From a team's perspective, I can understand where Mercedes was coming from... however, I think they should have told Hamilton to let Rosberg by, as NR was much faster and wanted to push the pace on the Red Bulls.

That race was jacked up from the git-go. Alonso staying out on that damaged front wing (which obviously caused him to crash). It was a shame too, because Massa's car was super strong so I bet Alonso could have been right up there had his car been okay.

Force India pitting both cars at the same time, wtf? ...and eventually having to park them both because of an axle nut issue.

Kimi is my favorite. Lotus didn't have the best of showing yesterday, but after that bullshit penalty pushing Kimi back to P10 grid, and Romain at P11... I guess you can't complain about +3 and +5 finishes, respectfully.

It was a good race for Romain after that poor showing in Melbourne. And, well, Kimi drove fantastic last week for a good start

I am still pissed at Hulkenberg who almost drove Kimi off the track about five times. Where are the stewards on that?

From what I read Red Bull had team orders for such and during post race before podium Webber said to Vettal "31L" Now I figure it may have meant that who had the lead by lap 31 (two laps post 1/2 distance) would hold onto it to keep from any silly stuff. Radio messages by Red Bull were to say that Vettal was being stupid.

Look I never liked the little shit and I think he's an over rated 3 time champ. Take Newey away from that team and they'd probably be in and around where Torro Rosso is.

I've always like Kimi going back to of course his McLaren Days. I still wish he drove for them. If a McLaren ain't gonna podium or win a race I'm happy if Kimi does this year. The guy almost won a WDC last year with only 1 win, but he podiumed and scored points consistently. IMO he's the best driver in the field right now. Followed by Alonso, Hamilton, then because he's maybe the smoothest (Prost like ) driver Button.

I like Webber. Something about him makes me really root for the guy, not that he's just a good driver, but he just seems like RBR's underdog.
I'm on the fence about Vettel. He's still very good, but he is an impatient spaz. I like some things about him, but other times I think he's a bit of a primadonna. I really don't know whether to hate him or tolerate him and respect him for his skill.

And as much as I like Hamilton, I agree that Rosberg should have been allowed to pass.

The only thing Vettel proved is that he also has the ruthless streak that most of the greatest drivers all had. It was a dick move to pull on Webber, but it was also a dick move when Senna drove Prost off the track. I dont see any other title contenders with that... and for that reason im not sure who else i see winning it.

Alonso is ultra quick/consistent but I've never thought he can find that last tenth, Kimi is a possible just because he wont be ruffled by pressure.


Apparently, the only great driver who didnt have a ruthless streak was Jim Clark, and he was the greatest of them all.

Prost won 4 WDC's and with a deeper field of true competitors without being such a douche. Hakkinen won 2 WDC's without being a douche was considered the nicest driver on the grid at the time. Alonso though a hot headed Spaniard won his 2 WDC's without being a douche. Raikkonen won his WDC without being a douche (Iceman yes, douche no.). Hamilton won his without being douche and Lord knows Button won his without being a douche. Button probably like Hakkinen was, is the nicest guy on the grid today.

Senna though a hot headed driver was not such a douche (he did not have to be a douche because he was arguably the most talented F1 driver in history) as both Vettel is proving and Schumacher through his career proved.

Without the brain of Newey Vettel would have ZERO WDC's

Prost drove Senna off the track first. Senna just got his payback; one good screw deserves another. Prost might have been an excellent driver as well, but he also was a dick on the track and in the paddock.

I do not recall Prost being a dick on the track nor paddock back in his day. Yes, he and Senna did not get along and McLaren most notably Ron Denis did not handle it all too well. But on the track Prost was known for being proficient, superbly consistent and as his handle noted "The Professor" as he may have based on being technically near perfect the finest F1 driver in history.

None of the others you mentioned can be considered greats, whether they were nice or not. Especially Button.

Vettel is on his way to becoming one of the best ever, if he keeps on winning the way he has been. His ruthless streak suggests he might.

One more time Vettel benefits from Adrian Newey and without such he'd not be discussed here.

In other words, put Alonso, Hamilton or Raikkonen in Vettel's Red Bull and either one would not only win the WDC but walk away with it. Vettel then would even more be seen as a yawn.

the year before Senna drove Prost off, they got into a scrap in the first corner of the first lap at Suzuka. Prost tried to muscle his way into the inside of the curve, and Senna shut the door on him. Prost then crashed into Senna and drove them off into the sand. The next year Senna matter-of-factly said before the race that if Prost turned in on the first turn, he wasn't going to make it. this was retribution for what happened the prior year.
I'll respect Prost for his talent and abilities, but you'll never convince me he didn't do that on purpose, or that he wasn't a dick. I've always like Senna better (hell, even Mansell for that matter. Mansell was an uber-dick, but at least he was entertaining and lovable)

Les - if Colin Chapman hadn't designed Jim Clark's Lotus he'd never have won anything either. Are you going to try and tell me he wasn't arguably the best driver who ever lived? The best drivers always get themselves in the best cars.

guess so. I mean yes, Prost was a human stopwatch and sharp as a scalpel. I just don't care for him as much as Senna, Andretti, Jackie Stewart etc.

Still like him better than Schumacher though.

I've got to agree with Pennz here. Doesn't matter what field you're talking about. The best of the best are always going to be bad asses to some extent. And it's because they're so motivated to be the best at what they do. If you're worried about being the nice guy, or if you're always considering how everyone else is going to be affected by your decisions, you're going to compromise your own success. It isn't necessarily bad to do that - I'll be honest, I'm that guy. But it's a fact that when you're at the absolute most elite level of anything, you're going to have to kick some ass to get there.

Actually through sports history numerous greats were not assholes or otherwise jerks. Off the top of my head I can name four NHL hockey greats, Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr, Gordie Howe and Jean Belliveau. CFL Football, Louie Passaglia, Ron Lancaster. NFL Football Joe Montana, Steve Largent. These are just a few quickly off the top of my head.

Prost was no jerk, He'd not have done the stuff that Vettel has done, nor Schumacher's infamous actions. Yes his time with Senna brewed much trouble but it was a two way street between them two.

Prost may have had an ego and a big one like his nose and yes most athletes do but that does not make one a jerk. IMO Prost was technically the finest F1 driver in history. This puts him right on top with the debate of who are the greatest drivers in order, and all around. Senna was IMO the most gifted and talented F1 driver ever but if one was to study the art and science of driving an F1 car (at the time) nobody could show you more with how to do so the best than Prost did.
