Autobahn Polizei

Has anyone played Autobahn Polizei? The few reviews I've scraped together don't sound great, but YouTube clips show that it could be fun at a bargain basement price. I'm kind of reminded of the old Wreckless and Maximum Chase games on the old Xbox...laughably cheesy story production values, but a fun overall game.

Looks like it could be fun. Is it new?

Yeah looks like it could be fun and not just another racing game.

It's been out since 2010, but it's a low key title...I just found out about it today after seeing it at the mall. It's based on a German TV show, so it's not gotten a lot of promotion in the US.

What sold me? Not Jay's post, but this:

Have this now. Found the cows but they are behind a fence I cannot drive through. Me thinks someone changed things for the US market....

Graphics are meh, missions are kinda hard at times (until I learn all the shortcuts I guess) but its a good time killer, and after the 3rd mission I unlocked the 18-wheeler so I spent a few hours just driving around bashing things. Only goes 90MPH though. WITH Nitrous. Bummer.

The driving physics aren't half bad either, but as in any car game when the goal is to bash your opponent's car to pieces, you need a good view around the car, and the chase views in this game leave a little to be desired. Hood and bumper cam are okay, but man, GTA IV just spoiled me with the ability to use the right joystick to pan around my car to see what was going on. When you spin out a perp's car, the AI is pretty daft at randomly changing direction (no two missions are the same, the AI picks different routes each time you play) and taking off while you fumble to turn your car around (getting into reverse quickly is a pain).

That and the default controls keep messing me up, but I'm used to playing Forza3 for the past year and a half. I'm gonna see tonight if I can manually change buttons. Or just use the auto trans for now.

By the way, that bridge? Yeah, you can jump it. The game gives you recommened speeds to land jumps properly. That one? 168MPH.

Finally picked this game up. You're definitely right about the controls, Tailhappy. I keep flicking on the turn signals while trying to rotate a non-rotating camera. Controls are indeed clunky...I could not work a manual transmission in this game with the shifters on the shoulder buttons.

But it's a fun game. The missions are hard as fuck, but they're fun. The GPS leads you astray quite a bit, and if that were fixed, I think that would go a long way toward improving the difficulty.

I think that 168 MPH bridge is the one I tried to ramp just a bit ago. It did not go well.

I played it last night and unlocked a 1300hp concept car that goes 500kph. Fun to crash.
