World Cup
The opening game was great.
It's half time and 1-1 for US vs. England. US are lucky so far, but that's fine because I have a bet on the previously unlikely result of USA winning 2-1.

Re: World Cup
Shit, I forgot that game was even on. What was the final result?
I checked out the odds for Germany Vs Australia earlier and there is some nice odds to to make there. I never did put any money on it but taking Germany wining at half time and at full time was paying $2.30. Given their paying about $1.50 for the win makes that previous bet look pretty good.

1-1 in the end. An ok result but not quite what I needed.

Dunnas, not sure which topic had your drunken invitation. I live with my girlfriend who watches all these sports with me. I'm not sure how I would have explained us going to a drunken mate's place at 5am to watch the second half of that game.
We'll have to catch up though - I want to drive your Clio...

Haha. So I did I actually did send you some PM's as well. I woke up in the afternoon and saw all sorts of crazy posts to you asking you to come here. I saw nobody had replied to the thread so I deleted all the posts and thought it was all gone. Our side gate that I opened expecting you to come through did stay open for a few days. That is about all I could remember from that nonsense.

Re: World Cup
Indeed, that second half was so great.
All our players absolutely through themselves at all the the contests like their lives depended on it. If only we can do that again in the grand final.
Where do you rate the pies after that game?

Re: World Cup
It made me feel better about the Pies loss to St Kilda, because at least we dominated the game but couldn't kick straight (familiar story). The draw against Melbourne is looking a bit more annoying because if we beat Sydney tonight we'll also only have the three losses. The Brisbane loss was ridiculous, but Gabba umpiring is always stupidly one-sided.
The Pies' best chance is to play Dawes regardless of his form through to the finals, to get him used to AFL level intensity. Otherwise the chance of our entire forward line going missing in the second half a final is pretty big.
BTW, that's the second time in three weeks that someone has played on from a mark and apparently had no prior opportunity. Ridiculous.

^Couldn't think of a better way to spend my thousandth post, than to talk about Collingwood on a forum full (almost empty) of members who couldn't give a shit.^

Re: World Cup
Congratulations on the big 1000. You did get a little too specific about collingwood in that last post. I was really just asking you about what you thought your chances were in the top 8 and the real finals. I can't say I really know anything about Dawes. You seem to like him though so I shall give him my best. Even though he is a collingwood player.Swerve wrote:^Couldn't think of a better way to spend my thousandth post, than to talk about Collingwood on a forum full (almost empty) of members who couldn't give a shit.^
As for that second time in the last three weeks that the umpires have called no opportunity after playing on from a mark. I am not familiar with the first one you're talking about but I agree completely that it should have been a free against milne there. I heard the umpire state his reason but that just didn't make sense. I've always seen people that had a free kick get penalised if they are tackled once play on is called.

It would have been hilarious if the USA beat those snobby europeans at their own shitty game.

Re: World Cup
...or more importantly, Africans. I'm in a comp at work where you pic all the results before the start of the WC. Once you get to this point, you start automatically losing points because some of the teams you've picked to pass group stage don't make it (a.k.a. Italy, France).
I've actually been leading the comp from the start, despite not being able to name more than about 20 players. I picked USA to top their group stage ahead of England, which came true. Unfortunately, I had them beating Australia in the game they just lost to Ghana in extra time. Which burns, because not many other people would have picked Japan and USA to get this far.
If Germany beat England and Spain take out the whole thing, I think against Brazil, I should be a couple of hundred dollars richer. But this weekend's results are a big let down.

Re: World Cup
Just heard some douche on ESPN say after covering Brazil's defeat by the Netherlands, "They're dancing in the fjords tonight!"
Re: World Cup
wow. seriously?
they're dancing around the windmills of "Norway", too for some reason.
