It's all a trick!
This year alone, corporate coffee titan Starbucks has put its name on everything from instant coffee to super-premium ice cream, so it comes as a surprise that the java giant is now moving to get rid of its name. The Seattle Times reports that the company is conducting a test to remove its ubiquitous name and mermaid logo from at least three of its Seattle stores, and replace it with new names that emphasize the coffeehouses' surrounding neighborhoods. The first test location is slated to reopen next week bearing the new name 15th Avenue Coffee and Tea. The Starbucks corporate logo will be absent from the company's coffee and products and rebranded with the 15th Avenue Coffee and Tea name. To add to the classic coffeehouse vibe, the store will feature live music and poetry readings, a manual espresso machine, and wine and beer options.
The pilot comes at a time when large casual chains - including Starbucks - are suffering from sluggish sales and slower foot traffic. If the name change proves successful, the company may test this out in other markets. I find this step for Starbucks to be somewhat bizarre - but perhaps it's a measure that will ultimately pay off.

You're not missing much. Starbucks' plain coffee sucks and their blended drinks are so sugary. But I do love the peppermint stuff around the holidays.

Yeah. Starbucks is pretty lousy. It's all they have here at work. But it's also free, so I don't complain.
I generally try to avoid it if I can though, when I'm spending my own money.

All we get is some Maxwell House shit in a big red plastic can. A little Sweet N Low and it's at least palatable. I want to get a Keurig for the house though. Coffee, hot chocolate, and tea! In cups! With a nifty little cup display thingie.

Re: It's all a trick!
we have a big lack of coffee places in the first place. best bet is to go to a bar and ask for a coffee.
but a starbucks, it's quite like a 7/11, a KFC, a taco bell, a subway, ... it's not the best choice there is, but it fucking sucks ass if you don't have them.
when i was in sweden a while back, 7/11 and subway were my saviours...
only to go back to belgium to miss out on all that..
or in short: i'd rather have the choice not to go there, then to be denied the opportunity

I feel like I'm the only person on Earth who doesn't drink coffee. The only coffee I've found to be drinkable is this Butterfinger-bar-flavored stuff I can get out of the machine at work.
Re: It's all a trick!
I like my coffee strong and black, just like my overused jokes.

the test starbucks is actually right in my neighborhood. they gutted the old one about 2 months ago and are in the process of remodeling the building right now.

I see what they're doing - people are thinking a bit more local, particularly since so many small proprietorship type businesses are getting killed.
I still don't think they'll be fooling anyone.

Yeah, exactly. The sort of mass-marketed, small town "mom and pop shop" quality phenomenon. The artificially weathered tables, mass produced abstract poetry and post-modern art, etc. etc. Rather sad to be honest.
I've got a simple, one point plan, for saving Starbucks.
(1) Brew better coffee.
They shouldn't try to be a quaint local coffee shop. It'll never come off as genuine.

I like the Vivanos. But they can't even get hot chocolate right. Tastes like cardboard.

Re: It's all a trick!
Starbuck is complete crap, it does however a fine job to make Americans more coffee minded, I actually had one or two not to bad coffee experiences in the USA last month, small store in Sedona even managed to make a American coffee that didn't taste like hot water, but like the real thing.
There is hope,as long as Starbuck don't get their greedy hands on that store.

Re: It's all a trick!
I don't drink coffee at all. I don't mind it, I just don't feel the need to drink hot drinks at all. I do drink a lot of iced coffee milks in the mornings at work though in place of breakfast.JaysonAych wrote:I feel like I'm the only person on Earth who doesn't drink coffee.
