Someone killed my PS3
LOL finally dead after it started acting up a couple weeks ago. I've rebooted a bunch of times, tried my games on my brothers PS3 and they still work. It was throwing codes 80010514(disc read error) and 8001050F(????). Sony said it will cost 150 to fix. Oh well, I'll just use my brothers till mine is fixed.

Re: Someone killed my PS3
no it would either freeze while the game was loading or kinda hickup twice during a blank screen and then display the code. I'm still kinda confused on the process of fixing it though. I don't know if I read it right or not but it sounded like they might swap my PS3 out with a similar model instead of fixing it. They ask for you model # and Serial # to tell what kind it is. I'd be pissed if they gave me one that wouldn't play my PS2 games .

Re: Someone killed my PS3
a new one is still 300 i think and i don't think they support PS2 games. The reason I bought the PS3, other then the grafics and blueray, was so I can still play my PS2 games. I killed 2 PS2's(disc read error, you would think they would figure that problem out) and said fuck buying another one.

Re: Someone killed my PS3

Re: Someone killed my PS3
Thats what I was thinking but they said all their parts are only available through them and their technicions, which is funny cause on 1up.com they showed how to upgrade your storage to 160gb with a Seagate(?) hard drive. I'v taken over my brothers playstation for now. If and when I get the money I'll probably have them fix it.

Re: Someone killed my PS3
They'll say that to get you to give them money to fix it instead of giving it to someone else.
I'm sure some electronics shop can do something with it. Some proprietary bits may be more difficult but they may be able to get it running.

And there's obviously a cheap chinese ripoff of anything proprietary

You should have gotten an xbox! Then it would still be working!

Or a book. I've never had a 'read error' message with a book.

Re: Someone killed my PS3
This is actually a fairly simple thing to fix. The blu-ray laser most likely ran out of blu.

haha awesome, my brothers did the exact same thing about 2 months ago..it now sits there dead..cause sony wants 150$ to fix something that is probably a 5$ part..fucking jews
Re: Someone killed my PS3
It's a focusing problem with the laser for sure. You should just take it apart.

Well, there would at least be 3 little red LEDs that would be working

Yeah but I could have sold it to Krusty for the amount to buy a new PS3.

Re: Someone killed my PS3
Yes. Older PS3's are retrosupportive of PS2 and PS1 games. But the new ones only play PS3 games, because they say past games are now "obsolete" (which is a load of bullshit; I have PS2 games I still have tons of fun on, or haven't completed, or in some cases still haven't played).
I have to look for a used retrosupportive PS3, and make sure that it doesn't do the disk-read error thing, because I hear that problem is as common with PS3's as it is PS2's. (Sham! C'mon, Sony!)
