I think it's going to turn out all right.

Passer-by pushes suicide jumper in south China

Chen Fuchao, a man heavily in debt, had been contemplating suicide on a bridge in southern China for hours when a passer-by came up, shook his hand — and pushed him off the ledge.

Chen fell 26 feet (8 meters) onto a partially inflated emergency air cushion laid out by authorities and survived, suffering spine and elbow injuries, the official Xinhua News Agency said Saturday.

The passer-by, 66-year-old Lai Jiansheng, had been fed up with what he called Chen's "selfish activity," Xinhua said. Traffic around the Haizhu bridge in the city of Guangzhou had been backed up for five hours and police had cordoned off the area.

EDIT: better pics here: http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2009-05/23/content_11422634.htm

A shot of the pusher afterwards, the newest hero of China

i wouldnt have thought china would care enough to send anyone to scrape jumpers' corpses off of the pavement, let alone cops and negotiators and all like we do.

I've said it before, but 99.9% of the people who attempt suicide are just looking for attention. If people stateside did stuff like the pusher, I bet there'd be a lot less attempts.

Yeah, if you really wanted to jump you'd just go and do it. People jump from the Golden Gate often enough that these exist:

I think the people that actually want to just jump and don't stand around trying to decide what to do. Suicides off the golden gate are only estimated because the currents likely carry many corpses out to sea.

We have those signs on the bridges in Edmonton. I don't know why they'd ever think that someone who lives in Edmonton might want to kill themselves.

What a way to go out. Throwing yourself off the 109th street bridge in Edmonton. Your bloated, pasty corpse bobbing down the North Saskatchewan River. Probably get grounded out on a shallow bit so kids could throw rocks and sticks at you in an attempt to dislodge what's left of your carcass.

We had a place like that. An area where there was a couple of old train tunnels, a town that the locals creatively called Tunnelton.
