Dear Mitsubishi:

Please do not discontinue the only car you make that is actually worth anybody's time.

I heard about that.

The Lancer Evolution X, Eusegi told me, will be the last Evo. “There is still a demand [for the car],” he said, “but we must stop.” Eyebrow up.

Huh?!?! :thwak:

It seems Mitsubishi, which is going to introduce eight full electric or hybrid cars by 2015, has decided its image is about lowering CO2, not making lurid replicas of rally cars that don’t go top-level rallying any more.

I couldn't disagree more.

Dumbasses. :grrr:

You'd think Mitsubishi would realize their company has been in the shitter ever since they took their focus off of making flashy, fun, and relatively inexpensive niche sport vehicles and tried to go mainstream.

Yep. When the 3g Eclipse came out it took a bad ass niche car and made it a soccer mom weekend warrior. The year later the Evo showed up, and they were all but forgiven. Now... :mercifulend:

I hope Subaru keeps making STIs, though they, in theory, will suffer with the exit of the Evo due to lack of competition. Looks like one's only choices in the near future for an import tuner car are the STI and 370Z.

I hope they get bought out and the new owner forces them to continue making it. That's the only piece of profitability they have.

Official Statement from Mitsubishi on Twitter:
On Thursday 3rd March 2011, @mitsucars said:

Production of the current Lancer Evolution continues as planned.
As for its successor, regulations and market feedback will dictate its engineering package & architecture.

MMC has kept the Lancer Evolution sedan evolving as the brand's highest performing model in the global market. However, as the market's needs and demands change, MMC is considering not advancing the Lancer Evolution concept in the same way as before, but to find a different direction for the Lancer Evolution model to evolve. The new direction, the technologies involved, and corresponding products will be disclosed in due course.

That means the next "Lancer Evolution" will merely be the name of a trim option on the Outlander.
