Your 1990s Luxury GT Choice
No real reason for this topic - just interested in seeing opinions.
Aston Martins and Ferraris are a bit too pricey for comparison, but I've thrown in the Supra as a wildcard.

if i wanted the best car id probably go with the SL, but the boomerang tailights on the maserati are one of the best design features ever put on a car
Pennzoil GT-R- It takes rue to make a thing go right (yeaah...RUUE!)

XKR - always loved that car. From the time I was little.
So gorgeous.

I really like the look of the XKR, a lot. Not sure if I'd want to own one, though.

Sorry, I love the BMW 850i, though I like the CSi more.

I'd probably go with an XK8 to be honest. It's a GT car, not an out and out performance car. The only thing that'd bother me, really, would be the lack of practicality (but that goes for all GTs), and the absence of a stick shift.

Wait, so did the Maserati!Clockbreaker wrote:supra. the others are all automatic.
Only the SL and the XK are auto-only. You suck.

Re: Your 1990s Luxury GT Choice
Maserati, definitely. It was a beautiful car. I would say the XKR next in line based on looks, but I always thought the 8-series was beautiful too, and it comes with a 6M, so the 850CSi would have to be my close second choice.
I am surprised however at the absence of the Porsche 993 or 996. They were in direct competition with nearly all the cars on this list.

XK is one of the most practical 2+2s, due to its massive boot. I'd gladly swap some of that boot for a shorter rear overhang. It's the only flawed part of the car's styling but it really is ugly.

Re: Your 1990s Luxury GT Choice
The 911 is a sports GT, not a luxury GT and should not be mentioned in this forum.
Funnily enough, the 3200GT is by far the worst car here due to a crappy chassis and mismatched engine. I used to love the look, but it looks melted at the edges next to similar but modern designs.

Re: Your 1990s Luxury GT Choice
balls. The Maz and the 911 at the very least were direct competitors though.
And at any rate the Supra is more of a true sports car than a Luxury GT itself.

Re: Your 1990s Luxury GT Choice
That's why the Supra is a wildcard. It's not suitable at all for the comparison. But it sort of looks like the others...
The 911 takes the interest out of the comparison by winning on performance too easily.

Yeah, sort of like when Road and Track did a similar GT comparison and included the 911. No contest since the 911 was far and away the best performer, plus it was almost as functional as a GT car.

This thread is really turning into a train wreck.

I think the picture you posted is of the XKR-R. Which is a stupid name, for one of the only cars straight from the maker with wheels that manage to look disproportionately large.

no that's a regulat XKR. they had those ginormous 20-in wheels later in their life cycle.
