He's still got interior work to do, but the exterior is done. Can't wait to drive it next time I visit.

great job on the resto. looks clean. Is it a '71 or '72?
did he do it himself or did he have somebody else handle it?

Its a 71. He and my stepdad have done all the mechanical work on getting it running right again and also did most of the body work up until paint. they took it to a body shop for paint.

Such an awesome car - great restoration too. My cousin had one a lot like that which we worked on back when I was in highschool (and jealously had no car at all).

all those first-generation Mustangs are great cars, even the early seventies examples like this after manufacturers started dropping compression. the Mustang never really got that Awesome Factor back until about 2001. Sure there are the Fox 5-0's of the 80's, but if you take the first generation, and all the recent ones into account, they're still kind of, "meh, whatever".

the only mustangs that arent too good in my book are the late 70s versions, the cobra IIs and such. you never see anyone with those or even hear anyone talk about them. it's like they never even existed.

Actually there are people who like them. They're simple cars to work on, yet not too popular with the popular crowd, but there are people who are into them. Usually they are the same types that like Pintos and Vegas.

Not necessarily. Growing up around weird and unusual cars most of my life, a lot of people who are into odd cars that weren't hugely popular, are usually people who are in car clubs with people who like the same oddball cars. Kind of like that Robin Reliant club that Jeremy Clarkson met up with in his little stint. They sometimes can be weird people themselves, but I wouldn't label them "rednecks".

Hahahaha well, every Mustang except for the current generation sat on a more plebeian platform.
And seeing as how the Camaro was outsold by the Mustang for all but 7 years, and had to take an 8-year hiatus, it seems like that wasn't a bad strategy oh snap. Just kidding, really I don't give a shit either way I'm just saying it because it's funny.

Well as far as I remember, the Foxbody underpinned the Fairmont/Zephyr and the Cougar/Thunderbird all the way through the 80's

i looked up how much power it has. 240hp on the 351-2v in his. obviously not the fastest thing but probably enough for a 17 year old to get into trouble.

Well if you look at the engine pics, that giant aluminum block with the pulley on it is the Frigidare AC compressor. The real question is, Does it actually work?
