Would you still rather a "Miata"?
She gets a facelift for MY2009.
I don't really know though, I liked the MY2006 design. This design language woks well on the 6, and even looks pretty good on the 3 (although I'm sore that they dumped the Mazdaspeed name for "MPS").
However I'm not too sure that the design language translated well over to the Mia-- I mean MX-5. The design is too fluid and curvy for a devious grimace like that.
Thots?

Yeah, I still like it. It still looks good, and as long as the price / weight / horsepower hasn't changed, I'm good for it.

I dunno though. I looks fine, but it just didn't strike me right at first. Something about it just seems...off.

The front end is kind of RX8ish. And not in a good way.
It just seems kind of odd looking.

The front end looks like it came from the movie "Batteries Not Included"

i like it okay until it gets to the top of the windshield. poor slabby car... it'll never look good with the top up. the last one did, and every generation before looked fantastic with a hardtop, but this one, ugh. maybe it'll be slightly better in person, but mostly BOO.

It's grown on me. And yes the HP is a little higher, plus MT cars get a forged crankshaft! W00t!
As a whole though, the Mazda smiley face don't work on everything. Case in point, the 2010 CX-7:
Now with a FWD base model (pictured) N/A 2.5 161hp 4 cylinder and 5speed AT. Turbo 2.3 with the 6speed AT is an option.

Actually, IMHO, that's the best looking application of the smiley face yet. Maybe because that vehicle is large enough that the gigantic smiley doesn't look disproportionate.
Re: Would you still rather a "Miata"?
I prefer it to the current car, which has just never looked good to me. The first and second gens are timeless designs, while the current one is an anonymous pod of a car.
This facelift is an improvement. It reminds me of that concept car based on the racing chassis. Although obviously not as good.

Re: Would you still rather a "Miata"?
its ok, but the whole miata product is kind of dead now. if you want a cheap, light, fun car then the original is the only one to have and will never be bettered. they tried to glitz it up a little and just lost the point.

I don't think it's dead at all. It's still cheap, light and fun. It's still about the best new roadster on the market today for a price that almost anyone can afford.

Meh, others have said it, I'll agree. It doesn't hold a candle to NA, NB models.
Can't wait till I get a real job, then fix the hole in the front bumper of mine.
