I cant make up my mind. Empty I cant make up my mind.

Post by millertime Sun Feb 01, 2009 4:11 pm

My fiance and I need a second vehicle. I am going for the $20,000 range and for it to be her daily driver. I am waiting until I am done in Cold Lake to get myself a new car as that trip puts a good 700kms/week on the car.

Should I get an SUV like an Xterra for ski trips, transporting kayaks?
Or should I get a small compact car like a mini that would be a really good daily commuter for her.

I have been tossing this idea back and forth in my mind for like 2 months now and cant seem to come to any decision.

Once in awhile I think about getting myself a mini cooper S, and giving her my civic. Then when we move back to vancouver giving her the mini and getting a WRX or G37X. I can pretty much afford anything I want at this point, but I dont know what I want.

I was in the same boat when I started this job. I could have gotten pretty much any car - not any car, but some pretty sweet ones. Had no idea what I wanted, so I just got a civic. fffuck. Good little car though, and efficient.

Why not get a WRX Wagon or something similar.

Legacy Sedan? Suzuki SX4 :zachsgotgas: Toyota Matrix, etc

But if canada is anything like the US, anything that is GM, Chrysler, Or Ford and is an SUV is worth about $3. Liberties, Escapes, Grand Cherokees, etc

I'd go for a WJ with the 4.7L, then save the rest of the monies

I could probably make up my mind a lot easier if they made a compact car in awd (besides the SX4).

I like the cherokee but it is too big for her. she wants something small and compact, but she sees the benefit of awd when it snows. I would actually like to get something nice for her that she will keep clean and we will use it as our main car on weekends.

What does that prove? The Civic is substantially smaller. Plus you should include weight and height in your little comparison there.

I like the xterra myself, one of my riding buddies has one and I've spent a fair amount of time in it shuttling up nasty forest roads to trailheads. And the plastic on the backs of the backseats is nice for just tossing bikes inside without much worry for the interior.

I've driven an Xterra and a Grand Cherokee. I prefer the latter. Especially if its one of the earlier xterras with 20 HP. :zachsgotgas:

I guess i don't like Xterras because it seems like everytime i go off-road some douche bag Frat boy wanna be thinks its the shit and ends up getting stuck in 3' of mud. But that might just be a Michigan thing.

What about a mini suv like a Rav4 or Subaru Forester? Their AWD/4WD are better than crossovers. Or hell even a crossover if she wants something with AWD and you want to be able to carry gear. Just find a few that you find appealing and bring some brochures home, then she can see interior options.

You really have a lot of options.

the CRV is awesome. so is the rav4. it would be a tough choice, if i had to buy one. rav4 has that great v6 option, but the CRV is much more refined, with a significantly nicer interior. both have optional AWD.

frankly, i'd put the new forrester high on the list, too. really nice car.

Man, I didn't realize the CRV was that weak. I suggested the Forester. Got shut down on that one too, never got a reason either though. Maybe some answers will come out when she gets back from Costa Rica and starts thinking about it again.

My vote is for the 5 door impreza wagon though. $20,000. Everything she needs.

Id get an AWD savanna if I went back into the trades or if I struck out on my own building houses. Neither of which would be a good idea in this market.
