Why is the X-Type so Slow?
A used X-Type caught my eye the other day. An early 2000s 3.0L model is half the price of the equivalent 330i or IS330. And those were only sold as autos here, whereas the Jag can be had with a manual.
But what I can't work out is why the Jaguar is so slow. Same power to weight as the BMW but at least a second slower to 100km/h and with slower in-gear times as well!
Were Jaguar lying about the power output or have they just found a way to get a lot less from the same parts as everyone else?

Because it's an overweight bastard child of Jaguar. It was the same car as the Lincoln LS which was supposed to compete with the same cars you posted. The Lincoln was also available with a manual the first few years with the V6 only. The LS was a good idea on paper but sucked horrible as a luxury sport sedan.

The S-Type was the LS. The X-Type was an AWD Mondeo.
But it strangely wasn't all that much lighter than the S-Type.

Well either way, both the S and X-Type were Ford's attempt in broadening Jaguars lineup. They were poorly made, overweight, pathetic excuses for Jaguars.
