Got a new car

Post by VS on Sun Jul 28, 2013 9:48 pm

My wife's car, a 2004 Cavalier was an absolute shitbox which was accumulating niggling issues so we decided to get rid of it. She wanted something SUV-like, which is apparently called a CUV these days. We test drove a few of the motherfuckers, the Escape in a 1.6l, the CX-5 with both the 155 and 180ish horse engines, the new Forester and the Crosstrek. My impressions of them all were fairly similar, the Escape had a decent engine but god damn does ford like to go apeshit on the interior. You can either get Ford Sync which is the equivalent of having a retarded gateway 2000 in the cockpit, or a radio with about a million buttons on a dash that looks like an alien.

The CX-5, darling of the automotive press was pretty meh-worthy. I know people say that shit is fun to drive but the fact of the matter is none of these vehicles are very fun to drive. I could barely tell a difference between the 2 engines (roughly a $2500 option), and road noise was very noticeable.

The new Forester is pretty nice, has a giant sunroof, a weird cvt and 170 whatever horsepower. It is also fairly boring. In the end we decided to go with a Crosstrek, why do you ask? It is slow as balls with the least horsepower of any of the vehicles, the interior is from 1995, and it is pretty low tech. Well it was the only one that came in bright orange.

Congrats on the new Crosstrek! Don't think you could go wrong with any of those choices.

I've seen a couple Crosstreks in the wild. They are pretty cool looking.

Its not. It's higher level tech support for specific software. The job and benefits are awesome.

What is the Crosstrek? Buick?

That's probably the only brand you could have said that is actually worse than Buick.

Seriously though, I don't know anything about Daewoo nowadays, but I remember back in the day they were cheap shittily made cars. Have they improved like Hyundai/Kia?

I think they make the Spark for Chevy. So, no.

You wouldn't have to twist my arm to much to drive this... six speed of course.

Honor seriously? Have you seen a new Buick lately? Have you driven a new Buick lately? They are lightyears ahead of what they were 10 years ago. GM has done a pretty damn good job making them the anti-Florida Retiree car.

Talon posted that pic of the 2014 Buick Regal GS. It's got a 270hp 4-cylinder and a 6-speed manual. That's definitely not grandpa's Buick.

So the name on the car is more important than its performance?

270 horse turbo four, AWD, 6-spd trans, and Brembo brakes. I'd drive the shit out of that car. Major sleeper...

The Sonic, Cruze, Encore also have some 'woo in them. I think GM does have a good handle on them, so they are likely to work throughout their warranty period.
