Trade in the Focus, Jay.

I heard from inside sources the interior is SO GOOD, that they are going to re-do the Mazda6's interior next year because as it is now, the new 3's is BETTER.

That must be a pretty nice car to be in, then :) I plan on keeping my Focus at least a few years, but the 3 will definitely be a car to look out for when I get to the end of the Focus's warranty...

And the 6 is already getting pretty great reviews about its interior (among everything else) from the magazines I've read. Only seen one on the street so far - looked fantastic.

I like the direction Mazda is going. Can't wait to see the ND Miata.

I'm driving around a 2012 SKYACTIV Mazda3 sedan for a few weeks, it's boring.
The dash design sure dated fast, and the mismatch of textures and colors looks like ass. The seats are uncomfortable (I like the sport seats in the s model) and slippery, the steering wheel and center stack is too far away, the 6-speed auto is clunky when shifted from 1st-2nd at slow speeds manually, but hey I'm getting 40-42MPG on my work commute. Since gas just hit $4.19 here, I ain't bitching. Much.

Here's to hoping the new 3 is miles ahead.

Yeah, the Mazda3 dash design is just odd. The first-gen 3's had better looking interiors, IMHO.

On the subject of gas, tonight, I drove to a gas station in the next county, where gas was 40 cents per gallon cheaper than anywhere in Louisville. The round trip was 21 miles out of my way, but I was still pulling about 35 MPG so when all was said and done, I saved an entire $1.69 Cool

Meh.

loooool

They filled it up for me, I've put ~80 miles on, gas gauge hasn't moved. Still have ~500 miles of range left.

Might take a road trip this weekend.

When the Focus is filled up, the gas gauge won't move for like the first 100 miles, then it drops like a stone.

My Subaru is the same way. Stays on F for 80 miles, but somehow the last 1/4 of a tank is gone in 30. Stupid.

So do I.

Most cars' floats don't exactly go to the top of the tank. And the tank is not square, so depending on WHERE the half-mark it, its not halfway of the tank's capacity.

So when the tank it full, the float is at it top limit, but it takes awhile for the fuel level to drop to where the float will actually start to descend.
Then when it SAYS you're at half a tank, you're below it actually, and the float drops faster due to the design of the tank. Especially those in AWD cars where the top half of the tank is larger, but the bottom is split into two sections to allow a driveshaft to pass underneath it.

So with all the electronics in cars these days, to the point where it will tell you how many more miles you can drive before empty (and, yes, I realize there a FOS on that), they can't figure out how to make a more accurate gauge?

The one in the Evo is even worse. The low gas light comes on before the needle gets to the E. It's still like 1/16 tank above the E and the light comes on. Not sure which one to trust. :suspense:

The old wagon would slowly drop to a half tank, then drop so fast to empty I thought the tank had a hole in it.

The Durango I can watch move.

The FJ's gas warning light comes on well above E also. Last weekend I went about 30 miles with the gas light on, with 2 kayaks on the roof adding drag, and my buddy asked me several times if I was going to stop for gas.

When I had my Firebird I could watch the gauge drop when passing/accelerating heavily.

But back then gas was under a buck a gallon, so zero fucks were given.

Cobalt's warning light comes on at 1/8th of a tank, and you can drive several miles on E before you have to stop for gas. But unlike the Camaro or even my old Prelude, which both juddered from a stop when they were on the brink of running out ("Find a gas station now, dumbass!"), when the Cobalt runs out, the engine doesn't give me a damn bit of warning before it just shuts off. no hesitation, odd sounds, sputtering, nothing.
