I've always preferred the roadster to the coupe, but this looks pretty damn good. It's a bit sleeker than it's been in the past; I think the longer hood makes it look better.
Re: I'll take one to go please......
Oh Damn. I love that car. Those headlights are fan-fucking-tastic.

Good to see the Viper has progressed from Chrysler's 90s cab-forward design.

I love it, only thing that doesnt sit well with me is the wheels, too much wheel gap or too small of wheel in the front, something is just awkward about them.

^Yea, still the sexiest.
The new one is pretty sweet, though. 130k and it's taken itself out of the Corvette-price-range buyers. It is awesome, but the original coupe is still my

Not that it's not a good looking car, but I dunno, other than the headlights (which honestly is really the only part on the car I'm not too crazy about) it looks pretty damn similiar to the original Viper design. The second gen wasnt like that. It's like carmakers are afraid to try totally new designs nowadays and are just doing "remakes" or "reboots", kinda like Hollywood.

or just above ZR1 range. But that's GTS pricing, I think. The "regular" Viper will be cheaper though.

No it's not. The original Viper RT/10 was $50k brand new. That was 20 years ago.
$130k for a Viper GTS should be about right.

The original GTS came out in 96 and was like $70. A $60k hike in 16 years?

130k today is around 80k in 1992 dollars. So yeah, big price hike.

Re: I'll take one to go please......
The only way a price hike like that is warranted is if the build quality is improved dramatically..which I find unlikely.
Re: I'll take one to go please......
In '96 the Viper ran about $70G as noted here. But look at it this way, from what I heard the new Viper will range between $110-$120G depending on which variant one chooses. The US dollar has devalued over 40% since 1996. The Chevy Corvette Z06 has shot up in price too pushing $100 G and the ZR-1 is over $120G.
The New Viper is said to be much better built than the older one. Time will sort that out though.

Wasn't the platform co-designed with the Merc SLS? I know it had Viper panels on it when it was still DCX, and maybe even after that. Seems like every other new C-J-D car has an older MB underneath, except the Dart.
Its all Fiat, right?

The new Viper is based on the last one's platform. SRT did not go with the Fiat platform. They did re-engineer the new Viper increasing rigidity and lowering weight. The interior materials are sourced from Italian suppliers that supply for Ferrari. But the SRT team chose to improve the old platform rather than chuck it as it already was a competent platform.
The price hike over the last Viper is not all that much. Last gen ones topped $100G. So the new ones ranging from $110-$120G is not all that out of the norm given it's a better car and the US dollar continues to devalue in the world.

Jeez. I've always thought that the first-gen GTS's were the most beautiful, but now I don't even know anymore. The new ones are mighty sexy like the SR's, but perhaps better.

Re: I'll take one to go please......
Why are you bringing up the devaluation of the US dollar in regards to the price of a US built car sold in the US? The US is the centre of the world so that sort of stuff doesn't matter. (but seriously, it really doesn't, much)Les_Vipers_rule wrote:In '96 the Viper ran about $70G as noted here. Still, assuming 3% average inflation, $70K in 96 is about $112 now which is in line with the expected prices you mentioned.
