Living the dream Empty Living the dream

Post by Tailhappy Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:12 pm

I bought a C1500.

Always wanted one. Was big into Truckin' magazine when I was in my teens. Gonna do little things here and there to it, but it was cheap, in good shape, and has the right engine (350 Vortec) and right color (white) and has room for the kids.

Living the dream Louie110

Already removed the bug shield, tail light covers, and ordered some smaller "sport" mirrors for it (both are broken). Gonna change up the wheels/tires, lower it a bit.... not sure what else yet.

Nope. Don't need 4WD. My first two cars were RWD only, and I never had no problem. Never even had snow tires.....

$3100 + tax title license. Plus I've laid a couple hundo on upgrades and replacement parts already..... it's gonna be a money pit. ^_^

But mechanically it needs/needed NOTHING other than a few fluid changes.

I wouldn't mind something like that for hauling toys into the mountains and band gear. My stepdad had a METALLIC TEAL with silver bottom Z71 when I was in high school and it was a cool truck.

TEAL. The 90s were awesome.

It's bad enough to have to listen to Toad the Wet Sprocket, but in shitty 90's GM speakers? You're killing yourself.

Is there a specific name for those wheels? I've always liked those wheels.

Now you make me want to buy an older GM truck. :curses:

454SS wheels. Or Sport wheels. Or in junkyard terms, 15x7 steel D-window.

Changing the wheels/tires already lowered it by 2", and my DJM 4/6 drop kit came in the mail yesterday. Once I find time to put it on its gonna be kinda low.

lowering a full size extended cab truck is kind of "interesting" but think of who we are dealing with.

I mean, you're essentiall taking away half of what makes a truck a truck. You'd might as well fill the bed with concrete and make it completely useless.

It can still haul and tow just fine. The height of the suspension changes but not the travel (much) or the strength of the springs. Still all stock in the rear, the axle is just relocated ABOVE the spring perches, instead of below. Frame is notched (and reinforced) for clearance.

Soft and squishy rear is gone, so is the bottoming out on the exhaust (stupid shocks the forums said to use), got some air shocks out back now, rides like a frickin' dream. No more clunks. And I can air them up for towing/hauling or winter. In case... y'know. :zachsgotgas:
