Hooray for 45RFE, good thing they can usually be had for cheap on the used market.

Btw, are you sure it's dead dead and not just partially dead? 118K seems a little premature on a 45RFE :zachsgotgas:

Actually it's a 46RE and I had two pieces of a 6" diameter spring clip laying in the pan.

and you always hear Chrysler auto transmissions go "ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZTT!" when the car comes to a stop. I never hear any other ones do that.

It's the old 41TE/44TE four speeds that make that noise. It's the external solenoid pack that makes that noise as it decides WHAT THE FUCK GEAR to shift into. As it leaks. As then goes bad.
My free '94 Voyager (don't ask) has the tried and true 31TH 3 speed non-electronic tranny. Fucking thing will go forever, so long as it can handle that massive 101hp that 2.5L 4cyl puts out.
