Where the Wild Things Are

Post by Turbofrog on Mon Oct 26, 2009 3:20 pm

Yeah, it was not a great movie.

I'd heard it was really sad, but for the most part it's just gloomy and dull, as there was essentially no narrative to it, and no conflict except for the petty bullshit of a bunch of monsters with the emotional intelligence of a 7-year old, which got really frustrating after a little while. I realize that it's about being a kid and all that, but even kids can string together a rudimentary plotline with a little bit of action (he even does so, in about 5 sentences, during the movie).

I'd probably be able to forgive it all that if it wasn't so patently obvious the mood the director's trying to convey in every scene (and he makes sure the soundtrack is there to hold your hand). I ragged on Up! for being a deliberate tearjerker, at times a little too plainly, but that movie still managed to make it seem really genuine and heartfelt, whereas this felt much more contrived. Or maybe since I didn't have much reason to like the characters in WtWTA, I just didn't care.

Anyone else see it?

Should have gone to see Saw VI. It was pretty good. A lot better than V.

Why the hell are you people going to see Where the wild things are? There's only one movie with "wild things" in the title that you should be watching, and that's only because of this.
