who gets insurance on a watch?

People that probably shouldn't be buying watches that are so expensive.

Its no different than insuring diamond earings.

What's the price of the average diamond earing as opposed to the average watch? uh-huh

beats me man. whats your point?

Diamond earings are much, much expensive than watches most of the time. If diamond earings are over say, 5k most of the time, and over 9k frequently (I'm just making this figures up to exemplify), it makes sense they get insured.

Watches can range from 2$ cheap stuff to patek prices... but they are very, very rarely comparable in price to a diamond earing.

The Porsche is nice. Fucking expensive though. That Omega is pretty nice looking too. But that first one Pennz posted just seems too...bland.

Well, Cam obviously likes the watch. He bought it. He brought it up.

You say "I have that, but I don't wear it because it's too big and bling" (subtext being: I think it's too tacky for me).

It's the same sort of thing as someone saying "Well, it's cool if you want to drive that economy car, I'd rather have something with more performance". That someone, of course, being Storm. I like the guy, but it bothered me when he made off the cuff, disparaging remarks about someone elses choice of cars while trying to disguise it as civil conversation.

You did the same thing here. At least to my mind.

Re: Watches again

Post by dunnas on Wed Jul 01, 2009 11:02 pm

Ok, so i'm not looking to spend as much as you guys always seem to be, but I need a new watch as I proceeded to break (but put back together just) and then break and lose the pin altogether to the band of my seiko over the course of two separate drunk nights a week apart. It's also looking pretty scratched up these days. I'm hopefully going to be getting more back in my tax return than I was initially expecting so i've decided to spend a few hundred dollars (AU$) instead of the ~$150 mark I was originally looking at. Considering I want an analogue watch with a chronograph and an alarm while also having it look decent, the budget increase has basically just meant I can go from looking at Seikos to Citizen Eco-Drives.

The following 4 watches can all be had for between AU$275-$320 on ebay from good sellers. They are all from the same line and all have the same functions. I'm just looking for opinions on what you guys like the look of best. I've put them in order of what I think I like best. The bottom 2 are titanium, the top two aren't.

$315

$315

$320

$275

I like the bottom one. The second one is pretty cool.

I bought Storm two of his Citizens and they're awesome. He also bought the Blue Angels watch with its fancy pants atomic clock function.

Nobody was any help at all here until too late. I bought the second one down on ebay last night. I was always leaning towards the top one but decided that the striped band might really be a bit much at the last minute.

Second is what I would have voted for. I like the contrast more than the first one.

Well you only gave us a day. :curses:

Anyway, you made a good choice. I like that one... classy but subtle. I like that last one, too. Something about a nice watch with a dark blue face :miller: . My Seiko is like that.
