Sighting on the highway

Post by Olds on Mon Oct 26, 2009 11:03 am

This fuckhead was driving 105 kph (65 mph) in the left lane. Limit's 100. Min reasonable for left lane is like 120-130. What a twat.

Left lane is for passing, not cruising. I hate it when people do that.

it's none of your business what speed other people drive, you're not a cop, so who are you to hold people up in the left lane?

always go right. you never know what reason others possibly have to speed.

Florida slower 316.081(2) Governor Bush vetoed 2005 SB732, which would have reserved the left lane for passing, saying that drivers blocking the left lane are "cautious and careful."

Unless someone comes up on me like a bat out of hell flashing lights and honking im going to assume they were just speeding for sake of speeding. In which case i am usually in the left lane to be in the most view of the people around me (on motorcycle) or to get away from idiots. In which case they can wait the two seconds till i get ahead of the guys besides me. Im not going to speed up so much that i get a ticket just to see the dick behind me pass me then 5 minutes later I catch up to him farther down the highway.

I'm with TLP its ridiculous that people get mad for people driving 10mph over the speed limit in the left lane, its NOT a passing lane when there are left lane onramps and offramps now, its just the same as any other lane...the whole passing lane thing is very outdated.

Holy shit I HATE when people are clogging shit up by just cruising in the left lane. What are you, the speed police? Get the fuck out of the way! You're just congesting traffic and potentially causing more of a danger.

I don't care if you are going 10 over the limit, if someone comes up behind you, get your slow ass out of the way. What's the big deal? What are you trying to prove?

That's one of my biggest driving pet-peeves.

Unless there's serious congestion, the left lane is only for passing.

Also, the thing about breaking the speed limit in Ontario is that:
a) 100 kph is only 62 mph, so it's slow by most US standards for highway speed, no?
b) The tacit speed limit, below which no cop is going to pull you over unless they've got vicious PMS, is 115.
c) Now really, they should either bump up the limit officially, or start enforcing, because right now it's bullshit if you go 5 over the tacit limit and get a ticket for 20 over, but that's neither here no there.
d) People who cruise in the left lane are douchebags.

I will agree with olds, I have lived in a couple states and the rules of the road are pretty much the same whether its in writing or not. If you're cruising, keep to the right so faster traffic can pass. You are not actually being courteous if you are blocking the left lane. Here in Illinois there are signs posted on the interstates saying "Slower Traffic Keep Right".

By the way for you guys in Florida.

You guys want to know what is really sad? This way of thinking is actually taught in driving schools in Canada............ I wanted to punch the instructor in the face when he told me I should stay in the left lane to have better vision.

It is not outdated. Its just that there are so many tools on the road just like you who clog up the left lane and therefore do not provide an an easy accessible way for you to get into the left lane and then left on/off ramp right away.

true. but i'm sticking to the "you're no authority, so you've got no reason at all to slow me down, get the fuck out of my way, you're supposed to be on the outer right lane anyway, just go left when you have no other choice.

i'll drive 250kmh in the right line, if there's nobody there. why stay left? i'm no cunt. unlike tlp and dodge.

Well, the 401 and 427 have a few when you're coming in from Express to Collectors, although I guess they're not 'real' on-ramps per se. In fact, I can't think of a real left lane on ramp anywhere... You're right, that would be totally nuts.

someone convince me that doing 20mph above the speed limit is less dangerous than me doing 10mph above the speed limit in the left lane, and that'll be that.

What pisses me off the most isnt that I cant travel in the left lane at an appropriate speed..its that you left laners weave in and out through all the lanes because the left lane isnt traveling at 100mph, cutting everyone off so that you can get to your pap smear an extra 14 seconds sooner..every time you change lanes you are just adding to congestion by making everyone else check up...just stay in your lane shut up and get there when you get there!

btw go travel in tampa or miami or the new construction in jax, its all left and right onramps/offramps, hell miami has them at the same time

We wouldn't have that problem if people simply obeyed the following principal: "SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT"

That means if a car is comming up behind you faster than you are driving, you should get OUT OF THE FUCKING WAY.

Wouldn't have to do so much weaving if the slower traffic in the left lane would move right.

Signs around here say it explicitly: Keep right, except to pass.

Dude, your second paragraph answers your first. Just get the hell out of the way and they wouldn't have to weave in and out of everyone to get around YOU. YOU'RE the cause. I usually give someone about a minute to move and I go into other lanes to get around. You like being tailgated? You like getting everyone driving around you to pissed off and more aggressive? Why bother, just move.

If I'm doing 75-80 in the fast lane and someone comes up behind me, I get out of the way. I don't feel like being tailgated or having someone weave into different lanes to get around. Why would you want to invite that type of driving near you? Just move your ass... not hard.

Highways in Montreal are kind of like that - entries and exits from both sides.

But if you drive the limit in the left lane in Montreal you'll have so many people buzzing you on the right you'll probably back down.
