Yeah, I've been watching some things on the news and they mentioned that soldier a few years ago from the 101st Airborne who threw the grenade into an officer's tent and killed some people, and of course he had a Muslim name too.

News had been reporting that the shooter had been killed, but Army personnel just held a press conference and said the shooter survived the gun battle, and will likely survive to face punishment.

He's obviously muslim, seeing as the Council on American-Islamic Relations issued a statement already.

I love the last line too: "Unfortunately, based on past experience, we also urge American Muslims, and those who may be perceived to be Muslim, to take appropriate precautions to protect themselves, their families and their religious institutions from possible backlash."

It's really tragic. One of my co-workers lives/works in Fort Hood and she's here for two weeks; she said the whole community is still in shock. The whole safety of the base has been shaken up.

A couple of days after it happened, I'd seen a panel interview on CNN that included a Judge Advocate General, and former soldier Shoshana Johnson (who was in that reserve convoy ambushed near the beginning of the 2nd Iraq War; she was the first black female POW in the US military) and of all people, Dr. Phil. The JAG was basically saying since the guy is Muslim, it had to be a terrorist attack no question, and taking some haughty position that because he was an officer, he just wouldn't suffer from PTSD like an Non-Com would. Johnson, who was a Private, took offense to that and took him to task, where he had the balls to say, "Ma'am, I spent a year in Iraq so I know what it's like...have you ever been there?"

She dressed that asshole down, letting him know that she was a POW that was shot during her capture and he spent all of his fucking time in the Green Zone and didn't know shit about what was going on. Even Dr. Phil was owning this guy. You know you've fucked up when Dr. Phil looks much smarter about foreign affairs than you do.
